Question - do you let door to door salesmen in?

I live in a block of flats and we have buzzer entry system. I never answer the buzzer unless expecting someone and if I don't answer they bang on the window. Anyhow, I digress! I would never let someone into my flat without prior arrangement unless reading gas meter and they need to show id whilst I still have the door chain on!Ever wonder about those people who spend £2 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water? Try spelling Evian backward.0

Have you noticed how these people, if you aren't interested, ask you to let them in anyway? They get quite annoyed if you say no, as well. But normally, some other twit lets them in - as long as my place hasn't been invaded, I can't do much about that though, more's the pity.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
Nope I never let them in. If I want to change my internet provider, electricity provider etc then I'll do it in my own time and not be pushed in to it by some stranger knocking at my door. What annoys me the most is they make out that they are trying to do you the favour when you know fine well their only motivation is their pay packet.2022 wins include.... £1,000 cheque £150 ASDA gift card £250 Impericon gift voucher £100 cheque £100 of plant bulbs £100 Bower Collective voucher0

It wouldn't be so bad if, when you ask them politely to leave, they did so. Most of them are so persistant and have no respect because they are only interested in sales.
If they don't leave after I politely tell them I'm not interested, I start to get annoyed with them. Religious callers are the worst, when I tell them I'm an atheist, they keep trying to preach more about their god. next time I think I will scrawl 666 on my forehead when I open the door to them ;-)
The TPS isn't perfect, but telemarketers are easy to get rid of once you are on as most are aware that you can take action against them (athough I dont know that this has ever been done) should they contact you after you have signed up.0 -
yet they have signs in banks .shops police stations. hospitals stating you should NOT be rude to there staff so it should be the same
My home. My rules. If they dare to disturb me then they'd better be prepared to be told where to go. I feel under no obligation to give pushy salesmen the time of day.
Happily, I'm now behind so many locked doors (no, not courtesy of HMP :rotfl:) that no cold callers are going to get near my home, and the entryphone generally gets ignored unless I'm expecting someone.
Mind you, I'd be impressed if a salesman knocked at the window ... seeing as I'm 6 floors up :rotfl:0 -
When I was at uni, living in a student house, we often got 'cold callers'. Didn't think much of it until some guy came round at midnight, claiming to be from British Gas. Obviously we didn't let him in, but the police were round the other day to take statements from us regarding a robbery which happened next door. We told them about the guy from 'British Gas' and when we gave a description we were told he was well known in the area and was basically just canvassing houses. A whole gang of them were doing it.
Now, I never give them a chance to get going, or to look inside my house. If they are immediately identifiable as cold callers, I open the door, say no thank you, and close it again. If someone I do not know knocks on my door, I ignore it, or if I know my neighbours are around in case things get dodgy, I step outside the house and close my front door behind me. Gives me the option to literally walk away (I always have my keys with me, and the door locks behind me).
I always answer the phone, in case people are checking for empty houses, but if it's a cold caller I just tell them I don't speak English and put the phone down.0 -

It can be frustrating for a cold caller to get negative responses, but not nearly as frustrating as having to give a reason to some arrogant young punk why you don't wish to converse with them after they have interupted your day, whilst the heat you have spent money producing to keep your home warm is escaping through a door that wouldn't be open if they took no for an answer and simply f**ked off when told.Four guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.Together we can make a difference.0

i can sees peoples point of view of yes its my home etc but it's not illegal to do dtd sales and it seems to be the most best way of large companies getting business and not just cause some little scroats diddled old ladies
as ive said if i walked into your worplace and told you to fook of you wouldnt be best pleasedReplies to posts are always welcome, If I have made a mistake in the post, I am human, tell me nicely and it will be corrected. yes and at your job your motivation is your pay packet too
Yes but I don't go around for a living harrassing people in their homes and then having the absolute nerve to make out that I'm only doing it in their interest and that my one, sole purpose in life is to save them money. Honestly some of the salespeople I get coming to my door act as if they are Mother Teresa herself.
Also my job doesn't involve knocking on doors trying to force people (who may already be heavily in debt) to buy things that they don't want/need and my job certainly doesn't involve making false promises just to get a signature on a contract.
I have a proper job and I resent the fact that I work hard to earn my wage and that my days off are frequently disturbed by yet another salesperson knocking at the door and being shocked to learn that I don't want to buy whatever carp they are flogging that day. When I politely tell them I'm not interested they then try to pull the so very subtle 'sticking the foot in the door' method or go through the whole 'oh so you don't want to save money' speech. Even more irritating is when they ask when my husband or boyfriend will be home (because obviously as I'm a woman I can't possibly be expected to make decisions regarding my own home or financial purchases ).
Also my evenings are more often than not interrupted by someone calling up and trying to sell me yet more services that I'm in no way interested in. God forbid I should be able to sit in my own home in the evening without someone calling up at 10pm trying to flog me something I blatantly don't need and thinking that if they harrass me for long enough I'll eventually give them my bank details.2022 wins include.... £1,000 cheque £150 ASDA gift card £250 Impericon gift voucher £100 cheque £100 of plant bulbs £100 Bower Collective voucher0
