We really need a database like the TPS where you sign up to say you don't want sales people calling at your address. Companies would then pass this data to their sales teams to ensure that the people who didn't want the sales people calling wouldn't get them.

That would be awesome, but it would be pointless cos these people would just ignore it. Without some form of licensing enforcement for D2D it just wouldnt work. I live right in the town centre and a lot of local businesses do D2D knocking when they obviously arent getting the footfall in their stores, like the local estate agents, we've even had hairdressers and people from the local takeaways calling! They wouldnt go through a database before they went out on the spur of the moment hoping to drum up some business - unless D2D was illegal without a license to do so.

Would I balls let a door to door salesperson in.

I can't stand it when you answer and they won't take No for an answer.

And I can't stand when it's a bloke and they see it's a woman answering, then they try to turn the charm on! Fig off!!!

And I can't stand when they say "I'm not here to sell you anything!" ~ "I don't care, fig off!!"

If I know beforehand (if I've noticed out of the window) it's a D2D person, I won't even answer the door.

I had a sign up and not one person took a bloody blind bit of notice of it.

Same with junk mail (menus and roofing/building work etc) ~ they go straight into the bin!

I live in a block of flats and we have buzzer entry system. I never answer the buzzer unless expecting someone and if I don't answer they bang on the window. Anyhow, I digress! I would never let someone into my flat without prior arrangement unless reading gas meter and they need to show id whilst I still have the door chain on!

Ditto. Call me antisocial, but I generally ignore the buzzer. I refuse to let in unidentified callers for unidentified neighbours too - if they don't have a valid reason for being in my building, I'm sure as hell not letting them past the secure entry door.

On principle, I won't buy anything on the spot if pressured by a salesperson. I research everything to make sure I get the best deal. If someone is trying to pressure me, it probably isn't a bargain for me.

I'm usually sat where I can see them doing the other side of the street first, so I take great delight in opening the inner door, letting them see I'm there, then closing it and going back inside. If they persist in knocking - they get a barrage of abuse from me - I pay for my home, it's not their shop front, it's not their retail premises - it's MY home.

Telesales callers get even worse as we've got a previous owner of the number on the call list of a number of companies who refuse to amend records and call at stupid hours of the day and night from overseas call centres - asking politely (been doing this for a year and yes we're TPS registered) doesn't get me taken off the list so now I'm desperately resorting to getting the number marked on their database as an abusive do not call number. I can't resort to using caller ID to call screen as I rely on the phone for my work and a number of people who I need to stay in contact with call from withheld numbers (company switchboards).

I object strongly to having my private time interrupted by idiots working commission - don't want the abuse? Don't knock on my door or ring my phoneline.

I'm getting incredibly sick of the cheeky smart-alec replies these guys give when you politely tell them you're not interested anyway... there's a RAC guy who stands outside our local Tesco touting for business, and I shook my head saying "already covered mate" as he approached me a few weeks ago - and got a barrage of wise-!!! backchat in reply (I'm actually WITH the RAC so this really annoyed me). Went in and complained to the manager that he was giving customers grief who weren't interested in his product... I'm getting increasingly intolerant of being pestered and hassled everywhere these days. Have also complained about chuggers (those charity clip board commission ones) who were making similar comments to people in the town centre (stuff like "my you look like you've got a lot of shopping bags, how about giving some of your money to charity" and shouting comments about women's appearance to appear cute and clever... sorry but "a pretty lady like you must want to help the old people" shouted across the street isn't on).

Last bunch of charity ones we got at the door rang the bell, sat down on the garden wall and couldn't even be bothered to stop chewing gum for long enough to ask politely - the attitude of these people is shocking.

I don't blame you for complaining about 'chuggers'. I thought it was illigal to approach people.
With the TPS, if someone calls I always tell them I'm signed up to it (I used to get smart alec replies like "How long have you been signed up to it?" because there used to be a 6 month 'grace' period between signing up and that data filtering to the telesales companies and they knew they could get away with it if you were withinn that 6 mth window). If they get funny about it I say I want the callers name, the company name and their line managers name...I had a cold caller hang up on me
once because she didnt want to answer these questions :rotfl:

Maybe you ought to charge them for trying to use your home as their premises :rotfl:That would soon get rid of them.

I use to sell DG for Everset going cold calling door-to-door, and it must be one of the worst jobs in the world. Because i've been there i always try and remain polite when faced with salesman now. Unfortunately it's not always possible.
I found when we were knocking most people were polite even though you could see they wanted to get rid of you..However there were a few who were full of vile. We were always told not to rise to whatever was said to us, we always had to remember we didn't know what had happened just before we'd knocked on the door.

There is no way on earth I would let a door to door salesman in my house, I don't even open the door to them! I did however open the door to a charity man the other day (thought it was my son and the stupid mutt didn't bark like he normally does) He started his patter and I just said I already gave to charity he then asked if he could use my toilet:eek: I told him my husband was in the bath so no (I'm not married) he then muttered something under his breath (didn't quite catch it but I don't think he was calling me a nice person) and off he went!

Like others here, if I want to buy something/switch energy/give to charity I'll research it myself and then go to them!

What about putting up a sign saying Tresspassers Will Be Prosecuted that might shift them.

kitekat: maybe "trespassers will be shot" might be more of a deterrent ;)
