oops sorry op - my thoughts on your post are - you are completely missing the point about christmas day! especially if you are a christian. isnt it about love and forgiveness and understanding and giving?
if you are not a christian but celebrate the day as a 'pressie day' as i do - then witholding presents for any reason is plain cruel. and to do this to child who obviously still believes in Santa? I dont understand how you could even contemplate it. besides which at that age punishment should be instant - not weeks into the future! as errata says - the school will have punished the child - and to my mind this means you shouldnt. even our legal system doesnt punish a person twice for the same offence. it didnt work with gd - it made him very resentful and his behaviour at home worse.
  • I've just had another read through the thread and can't see anywhere that the OP has said what her son has done... or am I missing something?
I wonder if this behaviour is mostly at home or school. The other thing I can't find out is how old the child is. We seem to be missing a lot of important information.

As I have explained earlier, my son hasn't been punished at school. They leave it to me to deal with. And as I also said previously, I am not saying that just because he was naughty today then to take presents away next friday....I always punish my child instantly for his punishment, my point was what if he is naughty right up to christmas day, what does it tell him when he still recieves a stack of presents?

Thats because I haven't said what he has done or how old he is. Its not something I want broadcast across the internet.

Well then it's a bit difficult to give age/punishment appropriate advice then.

I'm not sure the Op really wants advice. The opinions on here seem pretty unanimous but as with us all, within reason, it's up to the OP what she does with her own child. It just doesn't sit comfortably with me at all.

:rotfl: oh this santa is running out of space in the wardrobes with hiding toys.

I always try and make christmas magical for the kids, I was brought up not to believe in santa (along with the tooth fairy etc) my mum said it was a waste of time and stupid, so I always knew he didn't exsist, so for me, the kids innocence and the fact they believe in the magic is lovely and something I am definatly going to try to keep up for many more years hopefully, despite the usual questions including 'why does santa in town wear a fake beard' :rotfl: and 'how does he fit down the chimney when we don't have one' :rotfl:

Please don't get me wrong, I don't want to ruin my childrens christmas, I don't want to see them upset. I wasn't saying I was going to do it, if I was going to do it, without a care in the world, then I wouldnt be here speaking about it, i would of just done it. I'm not this nasty person who wants to upset my children just for one naughty incident, its not like that at all, I love my children more than anything in the world

I'm sure no one is doubting that and your intentions are good but I hope you think again on this one

I haven't said I was going to do it, hearing everyones opinions has made me think about it. He has been punished this afternoon after school, and fingers crossed (and my toes and anything else i can manage to cross!) he will have a better day tomorrow :)
