Why did you have to cancel? Why are you fuming? You could have had a line installed today for free but you decided to cancel and leave a complaint - why? Do you think that helps to mess BT about like that?
I don't see how signing an 18 month contract and having to make 10 calls a month is free. I guess you unwittingly get stung when choosing mobile phone contracts. Why do you think that Ofcom will be interested in your case? You decided to cancel your new line the day before it was due to be installed.
BT customer service can be really bad but you have just messed them about by cancelling your order placed on the 16th, just the day before installation was due!
To people who have read more than one page of this thread recently, you would see that I was advised that I would not have to pay installation fees when the engineer came round if I had a dial-tone, which I confirmed with the BT representative before placing my order. My reason for complaining to OFCOM would have been having lost this dial tone, just before installation, hence I cancelled at the last minute. Now I shall be complaining about how quick openreach are to disconnect flats, the long waiting times, and after speaking to the BT representative from this forum, about being given the incorrect information in regards to dial tones as apparently I would have had to pay still anyway.
Not that anything will be done, seeing as I seem to be the only one with such massive expectations of a service that everyone relies on.0 -

The required ten calls per month can cost you nothing if you read the terms & conditions of the offer.

So you were told that you would not have to pay an installation fee but when you lost dial tone on the night before your connection was due, you panicked.
You can't complain about losing dial tone before you are a customer! BT can do the provide however they wish and were most likely just connecting a new number to your line.
You obviously wanted a line, so it's your loss.

Hi,
If any one could offer me any advice I would be very grateful.
I am a student and now have a BT landline and o2 Broadband. I applied for the landline reconnection online, chose the lowest price option (£11.49 monthly) as we only need the line for internet really. The application was sent off and I was told I would be informed if a reconnection charge would be applicable. I didn't hear anything so rang up BT and they infomed me there would be no charge.
I have now recived a bill stating I have been put on the "special connection charge package", this is an 18 month contract and £15.49 a month.
Apparently the free reconnection was subject to having this package. At no point did I agree to this, and was not informed that free reconnection was subject to me having an 18 month contract. I do not need a long contract as I will be moving out as its my last year of uni!
Any advice!? As it was all done online it is very hard to validate my story to BT but at no point did i choose this package!
Thanks,0 -

However, you may find yourself having to insist on being transferred to the COT (Customer Options Team) to reach someone who'll deal correctly with your request.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
The POST OFFICE will reconnect a phone line for free. Few people know about this as against 122 from BT you only have to sign up to a months contract too. My dad has just done this as he didnt want to pay the BT bill.0

If a new line is required, they charge £107.66 - see HERE.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Ladies & Gents my son has just moved into a new property which has a phone line in it but was connected to TALK TALK by the previous owners.
He's been told by BT it will cost £120+ for them to connect up, that seems a bit steep particularly when the line is already in place.
Does this qualify for the Post Office install as said above and if so would it include a BB connection too.
Thanks0 -
