  • Is that not for customers who keep the line but dont make the minimum number of calls.

Perhaps a BT rep could address Ypaymore,s comment instead of ignoring it.

I'd have thought if the contract was ended the 10 calls per month could not be made so a number of £6.80s would be due for each month of the minimum term remaining. Quite why the full £122.50 is expected is something BT CS will have to explain.

    Hi everyone,

Ypaymore's comments are indeed correct. If there was BT service at the address previously and all the wiring is still intact then we would be able to connect the line remotely from the exchange and the connection charge would not be raised. In some instances, there may have been service at an address and as the line is "dorment" for a certain period of time, Openreach may remove the external wiring to connect a nearby property. Therefore, the connection charge (£122.50) would be applicable when re-connecting service at the address as an engineer would be required to reconnect the external wiring.

    All the best,

    Robbie

  • Hi everyone,

    Ypaymore's comments are indeed correct. . . . . . .

You're referring to what Ypaymore said in post #1505 I imagine, but how about post #1488? There's a valid point raised in it which could do with an explanation.
  • Limota, I completely agree with you. Even online groceries can narrow down the time that they will come to two hours rather than expect people to be able to just drop a whole afternoon or morning. It seems that in the absence of competition there is no real motivator.

Another example of this is disconnecting houses to reuse the lines, I cannot fathom how it can be cheaper to do this, we all know that labour is one of the biggest costs for most companies...... actually I can, we have to pay £125 to reconnect them each time, when the engineers themselves probably won't make that from a whole day of reconnecting.

In regards to my posts on page 74 of this forum:
After ordering a reconnection on 16-09-2009 whilst having a live connection, I checked last night before my order tommorow, and I have been disconnected and have therefore had to cancel my order as well as leave a complaint.

    I. am. fuming.

I disliked BT openreach before this, for believing my house to be disconnected from the exchange when it clearly wasn't, for giving such a big window for sending an engineer round as well as such a long waiting time, and for lines being disconnected to be reused just days after they were once live, but now.... [words fail]

Finally, I am sorry this post is so long and pointless, I just wanted to give my 2 pence seeing as nothing is going to done about it.
  • I feel your pain slawer. I too have been waiting since 20/08/09 for a line to be connected. Original installation date was supposed to be 10/09/09 but bt sales sent my order for the wrong "exchange" so the openreach engineer rang me on the day of my order (for which i took the day off) and said there was no point in him coming and he'd have to cancel the order. Since then i've been waiting and waiting, and had bt place an order on my london line (which has already been active for 8 years) by accident for which an openreach engineer went to my property yesterday, and still no line at the address i'm waiting for. I've been told it will all be done on 6th october now.

The MSE BT pple are trying to help me sort things out, at least they're trying so i thank them for that but it does get awfully painful waiting more than a month for a line just cos theres no dialtone.... :-(

Niktheguru, I think your waiting time is so long because they are so busy disconnecting and reconnecting people. The difference is that I did have a dial tone when I ordered, but they disconnected just before they came to install.

Is good to see that the waiting times and service are equally poor else where in the country though. Maybe if they continue to affect enough people something will be done about it.

I have been thinking of reporting my case to ofcom. Any suggestions from anyone as to anything I can do?

As much as I want to see my own case resolved, I would be happy with just being able to contribute to getting a change in the system. I am going to report this to bbc's watchdog, in the hope that other people are doing the same, and eventually enough cases will come through for them to apply pressure for a change.

In a time when the government is harping on about digital Britain, making it easier(more accurate information on whether you are connected in the first place), more flexible(less massive contracts and disconnections), cheaper(goes with the installation costs ultimately) and less timely(a month seems a long time) to get a phone line would certainly be an easy step in helping people to get broadband who don't have fibre optics.

Why did you have to cancel? Why are you fuming? You could have had a line installed today for free but you decided to cancel and leave a complaint - why? Do you think that helps to mess BT about like that?

Why do you think that Ofcom will be interested in your case? You decided to cancel your new line the day before it was due to be installed.

BT customer service can be really bad but you have just messed them about by cancelling your order placed on the 16th, just the day before installation was due!
