Do you mean to 31st January 2010?
It's says 30th Sept here:

I was wondering if it was going to be extended again as they have done over the last few months.0 -

I was wondering if it was going to be extended again as they have done over the last few months.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Hi all,
Recently moved into a new build and BT tell me that there isn't a phone line active and an engineer would need to come out.
I've researched the costs but have a few questions.
My main aim is to not get tied into any contacts, I have a 6 month contact on my private tennacy to see what the area is like.
If I pay the £122.50, do I get tied into any contracts? Do I have to sign up the the ~£11 Unlimited weekend line rental? I'm not a skin flint and don't mind paying the connection charge, I just don't want any surprises.
Basically, I want to get the line up and running and not use the land line for anything other than the internet, I don't want to pay any line rental and I don't want to be signed up to any contracts.0 -
With BT, you cannot avoid a 12 month contract, even if you pay the full £122.50 installation cost.
It might be worth trying Post Office Home Phone. They currently don't require a lengthy contract.Got a cable line or no phone line at all?
1. Check your line – you need to make sure you’ve definitely not got an active BT line.
2. Install or activate a new line – depending on your situation, we may have to install a new phone line or activate an old one in order to provide you with broadband. The standard cost for a new line is £107.66, subject to survey. But don’t worry – if there’s an old line that’s still active, you might not have to pay
3. Already got broadband – then we don’t need a MAC
4. Easy to apply – just call 0800 092 0514
5. Fast switching – once we’ve accepted your order, please allow at least 10 working days before your new phone line and broadband service will be active.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. It might be worth trying <link removed>. They currently don't require a lengthy contract. Even if you don't use the landline for voice telephony, you need it for ADSL broadband - so you have to pay the line rental.
Heinz, thanks so much for your input - much apprecited.
I've contacted the Post Office and they said their system is saying I might not have to pay the £107.66, I don't mind even if I have to because I just don't want to be in a contract that I might have to break.
I've ordered, so 5 working day until activated and same line rental cost as BT.0 -
and same line rental cost as BT.
No PO Homephone £11.75 a month . BT £11.25 (online billing) (Can be reduced to £10.25 subject to 12 month contract).
Plus subject to making a couple of inclusive calls a month BT will provide Caller Display at no extra charge. Where as PO charge.
But your getting a better range of inclusive calls with the Post Office deal, and their is no contract !!0 -

Well that's only 50p, which I probably lose in dropping coppers from my wallet each month
We won't be using the landline, so caller display etc won't be of any benefit.
As you've pointed out, it's the lack of contract that's the deal maker for me and not price.0 -
Hi All,
I have PM'd the BT Reps, but is it 100% that the offer has been extended on the new line 18 month deal?
I will be ringing them tomorrow, but already assuming they will try and charge me £120!
Thanks for any info!0 -

Or, to save you wading through ver 500 posts in that thread, see HERETime has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market.
