No, they should not (particulalry as you're continuing your BT account).

Phone again and point that out.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
  • Hi

I pay my BT land line charge yearly in advance. My latest monthly bill includes additional charges as BT have put their prices up - the difference between my advance payment and the new rate.

I am sure that BT included this option in the small print, but where else can you pay in advance for a service and then the provider comes back for more money within the term of the original contract!

what are my options .I have a BT line ,broadband currently with o2 until August .Calls are cps with primus.
I am moving within the same exchange and can port my number but the new house hasn't a line . That seems strange to me as the previous owner had Broadband at some stage (maybe not recently ) as they left the computer desk. Its not a cable area .

Bt say I have to pay £130

    Hello everyone,

I've just moved my line rental, calls and broadband to BT. As part of the deal they said 'connection included' so I wouldn't have to pay the £130 line installation fee.

I've just been sent my first bill - total cost is £138 including the line installation fee and first month's broadband (I paid line rental upfront for the year separately). Called BT and was advised that I will pay the £138 this month and then next month receive a refund for £130. Is this normal practice? Why don't they just apply the credit now and make this month's bill the £8 I had expected?

    Thanks for any help. :)

Called BT again and spoke to another person who has arranged a refund of £130 apparently so first direct debit will be the £8 it should always have been. Not a great first impression of BT's customer service!

  • Hi
Not sure if you can help but I am making a complaint regarding a line I had fitted this morning. I have had a generic response and a reference but just wondered if you could help generally?

The engineer called (without any prior notice which I had requested but luckily I was in - the service is for TalkTalk so guessing that it not a BT issue). The engineer advised she needed to do some drilling (the line is at the house but needed a master socket putting in and connecting) but could put the line in so I left her to it - when she had called me in after installation she has put the socket box in the most stupid place - halfway up a wall and not near a plug socket - I have since learnt that I could have asked for it to be put in the lounge where the router is? I assumed (wrongly) she would use common sense for the location?

Also, when I left to go to work I noticed that there is a big chunk of render missing where she has drilled into the front of the house and the wire is just sticking out and not sealed in properly. I want them to come back out and put the socket box in an appropriate place and sort out or compensate me for the damaged render. I have photos if this helps - do you think BT will help me?

BT will not help as it's nothing to do with them.

    You need to contact TalkTalk.

By the way you might get more help if you opened a new thread of your own rather than replying on to threads that have got nothing to do with your problem. Click the "New Thread" button at the top left of all the threads.

Any updates on how to avoid the connection fee?

Moving in a couple of weeks to a rented house, pretty sure it has a phone line though don't know who with. Currently have unlimited weekend calls and unlimited broadband with BT, contract started 6 months ago.

Putting details into the moving home pages on the website and it comes up with the £130 connection fee, don't mind signing up for another contract (though will likely move again in 12 months so will be in the same situation again!) but don't really want anymore than the current package. Am I likely to have any luck arguing with the call centre?
