Don't take any notice of calls from India, they haven't a clue.
You won't have had your first bill yet. You should find that, although your order shows a charge of £130, your bill will show a charge and a refund.
If that doesn't happen, complain. You will have been mis-sold. I am sure BT company representative will confirm that.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -

Perhaps a BT rep could tell me how to complain, as all routes from the website seem to take me to aforesaid indian call centre?
Thanks, NNH0 -
Thanks Heinz, will do that

Needed a new phone line installed for broadband so contacted BT who said the charge would be £130. Went into local Post Office grabbed a leaflet rang their call centre (0800 092 0514)and quoted the branch code on back of leaflet (0047023). To my surprise they are charging only £60 for the same BT line to be installed. In fact it is the BT engineer who came to install. Why would anyone pay an extra £70 for the same service. As for the line rental costs it is still over £2 cheaper than BT per month.0

Please try to be sensible and don't post the same thing on 3 separate thereads.
Hi Heinz,
Is your 6 step plan still valid? Reason I ask is that I only pay BT for my line rental (my calls go through Primus). Fed up with BT constantly putting up their line rental. I don't want to pay a year in advance with them either.
Just wondered what my best option was? Should I move my line rental to Primus or should I move my line rental ro Sky as I do get Sky TV.
Broadband goes through Orange.
Any help appreciated...cheers0 -
A few minutes searching this board for others' experiences of Primus recently will probably put you off transferring your line rental to them despite the continued recommendation from Martin and the low price (albeit, the £2.50 extra for Caller Display and no paper-free discount makes it slightly less attractive).
Having said that, if, like me, you're on a legacy CPS calls packages with Primus, we're probably OK for now (provided nothing goes wrong and we need to contact them). In fact, if you're on a similar package to mine, you're probably on a very good deal - free evening (6pm to 8am) and weekend UK 01/02/03 calls of up to 90 minutes each for no monthly fee.
Sky's line rental is not that much cheaper than BT's and, particularly if they've a LLU presence in your local exchange, can be a nightmare too if you ever want to leave.
I get accused of being a BT employee whenever I say the following but I'll say it again anyway.
Your CPS calls plan is probably unbeatable.
You can use the 1280 prefix to hop back onto BT to make your weekend calls and so 'qualify' for free Caller Display (some others charge £2.50/month for that).
You probably get £1.25 month paper-free discount.
You can use 18185 for 5p each UK 01/02/03 calls regardless of duration.
You can take your pick of ADSL ISPs because BT has to carry them all.
More upsides than downsides IMHO.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Thanks for that Heinz. You're right, I'm on the old Primus Penny-Saver plan (or whatever it was called). I do use the 1280 at weekends to 'hop' back onto BT to make sure I keep up my inclusive calls so I dont get charged for Caller Display & 1571 etc.
I noticed that the normal price of Sky's line rental wasn't that much cheaper than BT's but I thought I might get some sort of 'deal'.
So, it looks like I'm stuck with BT then?? I don't want to let Orange take my line rental - they are AWFUL - probably much worse than Primus for customer service. Having said that, I've never had any trouble with Primus so I've never had cause to ring them.
There doesn't seem to be thatmuch competition around for purely the line rental aspect....0 -
I think savvy consumers (thanks, Martin) have resulted in CPS offerings being few and far between now so, if you're lucky enough to still be on one, I'd advise sticking with it even if paying BT's higher than some others line rental cost is necessary to do so.
You're right about line rental though. Anything much below BT's rates must be a loss leader and the provider will be looking for ways make that money - and more - back again.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market.
