• Hi Woody's Girl,

From reading your thread I do not see any reason as to why we can not postpone the installtion of your BT line in your new home. We could delay the new order up to a maximum of six weeks, so if you move in by then there wouldn't be any need to cancel your BT account.

As Heinz says you can also opt for an 18 month contract to get free installation as long as you make 10 chargeable/inclusive calls per month.

If you wish you can PM me your details to btcare@bt.com and I'll have a chat with you to answer any questions you have.

Regards,
Jon.

I have replied to that address but haven't yet had any response.
• I've had nothing but problems since i joined BT. No Broadband for 3 months, then price plan i asked for was not applied for the first quarter meaning i paid full price. Then Broadband refund was a fraction of the cost. Now last month i signed up for anytime calls (12 month contract) now as we are moving house next month i have been told i have to pay £122.50 because of technology that needs to be updated. I can't get the free connection that Heinz mentions as i have only just taken out a contract. The house is only 7 years old so fail to see how the 'technology needs updating'. I have a choice of paying off BT's remaining contract (over 10 months worth of call plan and line rental is not cheap) and go with Virgin.
Really annoyed. Anyone have any ideas?

Ok, so I did that, got a phone call back from someone offering to wipe the charges for cancelling contract early and get on this contract so we don't have to pay the connection fee. He was e-mailing me to confirm all this before I went further. No e-mail and I don't have the guys number.

What next, do I call Customer Care or do I go back to the house moving number from the bill?

Can't BT just talk to one another instead of only being able to get certain deals with certain people? It's very frustrating. I started trying to sort this on Monday and am still no further forward. I just want a working telephone line, how hard can it be?

So I've bought a flat and am moving into it next month. The person living there is transferring their BT number when they move out.

My question is does this mean I have pay BT the connection fee or can I just set up a new number when I move?

Thanks for replying but i've just phoned the number given for getting the free connection deal. Apparently because I already have a deal I can't have another. I've agreed to the connection charge but at least I don't have to pay to get out of the existing contract.

Hi Dukula, judging by your post I can advise that if there is a working line at the point of your order for service there would be no connection charge raised. In this case it would be best to order your service as close to the date as possible to that of the date that the current customer moves out.

• In Nov 08 I moved into a rented new build flat. A little while after I contacted BT to set up a connection, was advised that I had to pay a connection fee (fair enough).

I took a day off work for the engineer to come and do the connection. Long story short, the engineer was sent to another flat in the building and installed our line to their flat (and I started receiving their bills). After numerous phone calls, it got sorted out, that number was cancelled and our connection was booked for another day.

So I took another day off, the engineer was sent to our flat this time, and the connection was sorted (hooray).

Cut to nearly a year later, my partner and I decided to move to cheaper accommodation. I called BT to arrange the disconnection and the operator asks me about the property we are moving to. She informed me that there is no phone line installed there so we would have to pay a connection fee again, unless we want the phone/broadband/tv package, then the connection would be free. We can't afford the bundle overall so just decide on the disconnection.

So after less than a year, we are severly out of pocket (having to pay the disconnection fee really grates me), have had rubbish customer service (and no apology or compensation), and now have a rented property that is over 100 years old and doesn't have a phone line connected.

At some point, our new property had a Virgin Media box installed. Is Virgin like Sky and require a phone line to be connected to enable a box to be installed?

I'm just taken aback that a house that old would not have a line already connected. Would there be any reason for a phone line to be completely removed? I believe there is a phone point in the house, just no connection.

Any ideas?

Hello monkeymax,

There are exclusions to the connection charge offer one of these is that you can only have 1 special offer on your account at a time. I have sent you a PM with further information.
