Hear, hear on the night clubs. I've never wanted to go to a nightclub in my life. Friends have dragged me to clubs for hen nights etc about three times, and it was always crap and made my ears hurt and I would far rather be in a quiet pub or a cake shop.
This is proof, if proof were needed, that I have been an old fogey since puberty.

Sometmies you can be lonlier in a city than in a small town - I live on a farm in a very rural area and there are times when this farm is busier than Picadilly Circus!

Enjoy the time on your own, maybe you come across as needy without realising it, I don't know you so I can't comment, but I locked myself away in my house for a year after I seperated last year, and now I'm at college and working part-time and I tend to stay outside of people, I sit and watch and observe, not in a funny way but just to see what's going on around me, and being back in the real world now as opposed to my own little world, I see people trying to be what they really aren't all the time, especially at college, trying to fit in, trying to be trendy or show off that they take drugs to mix with the kids, be yourself, love yourself, and just get on and enjoy your life!

This may be financially impossible, but is there any possibility of moving out of the small town? You clearly don't like it, and it doesn't sound like it's convenient to live there either, as you have such a long commute.

Some people might class this as running away from your problems, but I don't see what's necessarily wrong with that. Besides, I've never been so miserable as when I lived in a tiny everybody-knows-your-business place. When I eventually moved back to a city, life got so much better that my face hurt from the unaccustomed smiling.

I did debate it, the next biggish town is around 30 minutes away, and is where my work currently is and also where the lovely church is.

However, ex will put up major fight - I've already mentioned it to him with a very negative response. I know it's not his entire decision to make, but he lives 2 miles away and would quite possibly try everything in his power to stop it, as he likes me where he can see me (a whole other thread.)

The other reason I'm hesitant (apart from the struggle of actually moving with lack of driving and cost) is that when I qualify (fingers crossed) I don't know that I'll get a job at that hospital. And if I don't, then I'd regret having to move the kids again.
  • choille - I have been thinking more and more about driving. It was relegated to the 'lose weight' 'handmake all christmas gifts' and 'learn to knit' list but I think it needs to be prioritised.

I didn't learn to drive until I was 35(I am 39 now),I only did it as hubbies illness became worse and he could no longer drive.
It has given me more independance and I would definatly say go for it if you can.
  • I quite like having a few drinks on the odd occasion, and sometimes I like having a little dance (badly), but nightclubs are a no. I can't dance, I can't compete with the pretty 18 year olds for sure, and I dislike both the music and nasty tasting expensive drinks. I will suffer it, to be socialble, but that's it.

Worriedsik - I don't know what I would do without OH, but I do need to be able to get out on my own accord.
It's too easy to just rely on someone else & not make the effort - I've done that & am a bit scared I've left it too late to learn to drive.
