I started a post about how the others are all very young, and those who aren't have teenagers, but in truth it's what makes me know it's just me that doesn't fit in. I don't know why because I do try and I don't think I'm offensive! In a way I wish there was something I did wrong because noones ever told me and it could be something I'd change. If I smelt or swore a lot!
But I simply think people don't take to me at all... and I'm not a solitary person at all, I'm miserable on my own. Although having said that, I have recently prefered solitude to a 'new' relationship, after a long shift I'm happier slobbing around than having to put some effort in!
(is Gumtree not for selling things??!)
If you think that you don't fit in and people don't take to you then you need to look at the reasons why - and I say this as mature student who is fascinated by the psychology of all the different people attending my classes. I am a very quiet person, I rarely speak in class but when I do people listen to what I say. I'm gained the nickname "Mummy J" because I am held in high esteem by the others in my classes. There are a couple of older students who cannot fit in at all, be it because they talk about their kids and the kids cannot relate to them, they try too hard to be young and trendy and fit in, or in one particular case (a guy) tries to show off too much about what he has done, thereby has turned into the student people will avoid sitting next to.
if you are miserable on your own then you also need to think about why you are miserable. Do you feel that you would be happier with someone to share your life with? I'm not criticising, I have a friend who is adament she will only be happy when she is in a relationship.
maybe concentrate on your studies for a while, and enjoy your life - did I read that you are a student nurse? Your course must be very demanding, use your Saturday night as your downtime, it's the only night for me that I do not use for studying.
Gumtree has a part of in for dating/relationships - be warned though, in my part of the country it's fairly hard-core - all about sex parties and one night stands!0 -
mylittlesisterlola - (that made me smile as my two remind me of charlie and lola!) that's a very good idea! I need to buy some comfy pants I still wear my 'impress-the-guys-in-case-there's-an-accident-and-a-hot-doctor-sees-you-in-them' pants!0

It is lovely(maybe not the right word but hope you know what I mean) that there are other people who think /feel the same as me.
I think that also re the 'coffee' thing I don't want to appear desperate and that could put them of either, but if I don't ask then people are never going to come up and say "oh hello looks like you need a friend. I will be your friend" If someone did I would probably run a mile and think they were mad .
I own to many comfy pants and need some impress the guy pants.
What part of the south east are you from?January Grocery 11/3740 -
Actually it's a 'C' lol - Cambridgeshire! Ok, maybe not exactly the wilds of EA but seems like that when I hear what my friends who still live in London are getting up to.0

Good idea about the starting a make friends MSE board.
Snowed it is a thing that is not uncommon to feel 'different' - you're a caring person who isn't into going out just to get smashed. You've been brushed off by some people - it's easy to feel a bit alien.
I live very isolated & have made few friends nearby. I don't drive a car - which is ludicrous. I've decided that I'm going to learn in the New Year - even though I'm knocking on a bit - 48. If I can do it so can you. I don't have much money, but will make it a priority as I'm feeling trapped.0 -

worriedsik - single/lonely parents sort of thing?
pookie - I REALLY hoped when ds went to school and dd started pre-school that I might have some luck. However, uni/work meant I don't take them as often as I like, and as it turns out they've all been friends years and miraculously had kids together. ARGH!!! The joys of a small town!0 -
