Well it should cut both ways and we should be able to migrate without penalty . However, exTiscali have been saying I have to pay for the rest of my contract ,March 9th , I have been bashing away and had 3 emails all saying that it was a mistake to tell me that . What's the betting I still have to pay though ?0

espresso is right you can leave they contract now they have changed it without paying a fee.
What I find unfair is that the customer is tied in with exiting fees if what they signed up for doesn't change and the company isn't.
If prices drop for signing up to ISP's or faster internet appear and you have just signed a 12/18/24 month contract there is nothing you can do, however it seems the company almost free to do what it likes!
I went for the PlusNet Premium service *with limited restrictions (see previous posts of mine in this thread about this)
This is the 3 months free offer (expires at end of Jan 2010) here...
enter my username here when signing up and I get another 3 free months free or leave blank.
O2 had an offer on later which I thought would be better but after I applied for PlusNet (very useful if you own an o2 mobile for more discounts). Also mentioned in this post somewhere for 1,2 or 3 months free but most importantly don't forget to check TopCashBack.co.uk or Quidco.com and then delete your cooks before signing up through their site.0 -
I've also been with Tiscali for years and was happy with the service. My letter from TalkTalk tells me that my current package will be changing to up to 8mb (ha,ha!) broadband with Weekend Talk for £14.99 a month. Despite this being £2 more than I pay at the moment, and the fact that the download is no longer unlimited, initially I wasn't too concerned, although I didn't need the Weekend Talk plan as I already get that from BT . However, when I rang 'customer support' they told me that if I didn't take the talk plan my new monthly charge would rise from £12.99 to £19.99. That is an increase of £7!!! I can't take the talk plan as that would put me in breach of contract with BT.
Unfortunately, none of the cheap alternatives are available where I live and £19.99 seems to be the going rate. So much for broadband getting cheaper! It seems that those living outside large towns are now paying more to subsidise the cheap rates that can be found in high population areas.
Changing supplier is a pain in the neck, but I'm going to do it, even if it ends up costing me the same, or more. Talk Talk can stick their broadband (and Talk Plan) where the sun doesn't shine.0 -
.... and now the sales calls start (from all the online service checkers that I put my home phone number in, yesterday).. grr!0

I haven't read absolutely ALL of the thread, but one word of warning to anyone thinking of transferring line rental to TalkTalk. They are fine until there is a problem: then absolutely carp customer service! Unlike BT they do not have a specific line for speaking to someone about malicious calls you have to speak to customer services (hit and miss as to whether helpful or not) and they then refer the problem (internally, you cannot phone or speak direct) to their malicious calls people who are supposed to call you back but it took me over 10 days and several calls before I finally heard from them. They then have to contact BT to get the trace sorted and BT take over and were excellent and extremely efficient and quick in dealing with the matter for me.
Since I needed a trace on my line in order to allow the police to identify the source of the calls, and since the call log is not kept indefinitely, that delay was a big worry: but in the event the person was dumb enough to keep calling:D.
My own feeling, having had this situation, is that line rental from BT is very little more than from anyone else and that leaving it there is probably the best way to go if one can still transfer the other services and get the same package. I wouldn't be looking to go with any provider who would not allow you to retain the line contract with BT in the future tbh. Sometimes you get what you pay for in this life and whilst BT are quite dear for broadband, their phone deals don't seem any worse than TalkTalk now.
Am looking at the Sky deal with interest at the moment - but will be taking the line rental back to BT at this stage once I have made up my mind what else to do. Thanks to those posting info on how to change providers and still not loose contact with all those people who have your old email address - this was my biggest worry as I'm not terribly good with things like that:o"there are some persons in this World who, unable to give better proof of being wise, take a strange delight in showing what they think they have sagaciously read in mankind by uncharitable suspicions of them"(Herman Melville)0 -

I am fuming with talk talk after taking over from Tiscali!!!!
I have Been with Tiscali for a few years, happy with £24 BB, 24/7 phone and TV( occasionally stalls) , I have been lazy with checking my bills,
Get this
November £23.13 all ok
December £64.46 (inc, a £3 film, £6 for various 0870 numbers)
January £42.47
why the hike?? varying add ons each month that I havent requested, I want to phone them on their 7 day a week help line/ but now its 6 days a week despite the statement on the website below!
"Should there be any queries regarding your bill please contact our Customer Services Team on 0871 222 3311. Lines are open 8am to 9pm, 7 days a week."
Cant wait to hear their excuse tomorrow on their chargeable helpline.
Also Ive checked about moving to sky and my number is not listed a BT compatable line, even though it was before moving to Tiscali.
I am fuming!!!! ArrrrrrrrGH!

I've just switched over from Pipex ( owned by Tiscali, and now TT ). I have gone with O2 Access package ( exchange is not yet LLU ) and with 2 months free and sign up with Topcashback...........works out to equivalent of £10.42 a month.
O2 were very quick and arranged the changeover.......they informed me every step of the way and sent out the wireless router and software disc within 5 days..... got a text to say when to activate and everything went very smoothly....Top marks to O2 so far !0 -
Since I rejected the above offer and switched from Tiscali to Plusnet broadband at the end of December, I have been having problems with Tiscali. Despite the fact I rang them for a MAC code and did the switch to Plusnet, then cancelled my direct debit with Tiscali, I received a demand for another payment. I rang them and agreed to pay an extra £12 to cover what they said was still owed, and also posted to them evidence of my switch to Plusnet. However this morning I have received four emails, two of whcih said that my line has now been enabled for 'Tiscali broadband' and two that my line has been enabled for TalkTalk broadband! What on earth is going on? It seems that confusion reigns, but at least my Plusnet connection doesn't seem to have been affected yet. I am now waiting for a deluge of bullying letters asking for money to pay for the new service/s. Has anyone else been having these problems with Tiscali/TalkTalk?0

This is the problem with these mergers and buy-outs: it reduces competition and the customer loses out.
I got the letter and am pretty unhappy with the situation. I am (was) on Tiscali's £14.99 per month package, including line rental. Talk Talk are offering me the "great value" opportunity for my bills to go up by 23% to £18.48 without the service changing. I signed up to one thing and now it has been unilaterally changed: it is tempting to put two fingers up to Talk Talk and take my custom elsewhere to show that we consumers will not stand for this sort of treatment.
However, much as I dislike it, it is still, compared to the rest of the market, quite a good deal. Looking at alternatives available I think my cheapest option would be to have a landline and calls from Primus, at £9.99 per month and broadband from Plusnet at £11.99 per month (I live in a "Market 2" exchange area so am not eligible for £5.99 per month broadband). This is a total of £21.98: £3.50 per month more expensive than the Talk Talk package. Those two fingers begin to look a little expensive. If I were to do it through the right comparison and cashback sites I would get £38 back for the broadband and get the line rental for £9.15 per month. This works out at £18.81 per month for the first year, which is still slightly more than Talk Talk and it would still go up to the £21.98 after that.
I may carry on with the evil Talk Talk for the moment and see if anyone comes up with a better offer. I'm still not happy, though.0
