I have today received notice (like many others) that my Tiscali 8mb unlimited broadband and anytime talk and line rental is to increase to £22.48. Rang the number on the letter and was offered 3 months half price and free 0845/0870 numbers, rather than amazon voucher. I thought this was a good deal and accepted - until I came here and went and read the guardian article. So I rang them back to ask why I hadn't been offered this deal (my contract has run out, but the article does state "Customers who signed up with Tiscali or altered their package between September and December 2009 will be offered six months service at half price when they sign up to a new contract with TalkTalk. Those customers who want to stick with the original deal they signed, can do so. They will have to pay the TalkTalk tariff, but their account will be credited, up-front, with the difference, meaning they will pay nothing for the first few months).

The first person I dealt with said it wasn't possible, my deal had gone through to the admin team, and the deal involved getting supervisor involved and that it was really difficult - basically every excuse under the sun not to help. So I said I would therefore need to cancel my contract, so they put me through to cancellations.

The attitude there was so much different. I said that if they couldn't offer me 6 months at 1/2 price I would like to cancel my contract. Was given 6 months free straight away, no probs. Still get to call USA for free plus I get free 0845/0870 numbers (that costs me about £3 per month, even after saynoto0870!), caller ID, only downside is 40Gb limit, which the first sales person said that after 40Gb was reached it was a fair use policy. I think (don't know for certain, does anyone know where I can find out my usage on Tiscali??), I will be OK. So I am happy as I am actually in credit by £31 over 18 months.

So ask for your 6 months at 1/2 price if you are thinking of signing up.

Good for you DARBS this seem to be common place, ISP first line of defense is NO NO NO go to a tier higher and get a yes! . Do they not realise the existence of these Forums ( especially this one MSE ) huge following. No wonder the call centre staff get yelled at. I have spent a wet cold afternoon trying to work out where to move to and came up with BE only to be told Sorry we are not in your part of Sussex...Oh Nuts! back to the drawing board:T
  • Totally confused!!!!
I have been wondering if we should sign up with talk talk and get 2 months half price rental but after 2 phonecalls I am left totally confused.
We have had tiscali @ £14.99 line and broadband also we got free weekend calls to Aus and Canada,
1st phone call, I was told that we would have to pay £18.48 but would get intl calls to top 10 countries included on w/end and evening. There would also be additional benefits by signing up for 18 months i.e. free calls to 087 numbers
2nd phone call, no this isn't true we have to pay extra £2.00 if we want to do that. There is no benefit signing up for 18 months apart from caller display and 1571 (which we already have and I assume that would continue. AND we will lose our tiscali email addresses after 3 months!!!!!!
Where can you find the actual truth in writing? It seems people are striking their own deals but what is written down?
  • hi all i too have just recieved the letter, i pay £19.99 a month at the moment for unlimited broadband, and calls to 01 and 02 anytime.

as of 22nd march that all changes to £22.48 with a 40 gb cap.

im in a real quandry as to what to do! i dont think a 40gb cap will work for us, my boys have xbox live and live on it and my hubby has a ps3 also online plus i run my laptop and home computer for browsing, emails etc....

ive looked on the talk talk site and looks like my option may be to go for their pro package at £14.99 plus line rental, this gives unlimited downloads plus free phone etc....

did look at moving but need someone to explain why when i do a line checker it says i dont seem to have a bt enabled line!

i was previously a bt customer with a bt line, then moved to tesco home phone, then took up tiscali broadband and phone many years ago.

as ive always read it, tiscali paid bt for use of the line to provide my calls, but that may be wrong! why isnt my line recognised as a bt one?

i would love some help please as this is stressing me out, we are heavy users of the internet and i dread going over a 40gb allowance so need to get this sorted.
    many thanks in advance
