I'm leaving Pipex because they're ignoring a reduced price contract we'd agreed back in October by upping the price by £5.

I have my calls with TalkTalk. About 6 months ago they 'regraded' my free evening and weekend calls package to weekends only. I pay for the calls only. They didn't care less about the free for life promise when I signed up a few years ago, saying if I wanted free evening calls, I'd now have to pay a monthly fee. I'm in credit with them, and will leave when I've used it up.

When TalkTalk came to the market, they were a breath of fresh air against the uncaring behmoth that was BT, but now they're going, or indeed have become, the same themselves. You get smaller companies such as Pipex that were once a great little company, which then get swallowed up by bigger companies like Tiscali then TalkTalk and lose everything that made them good.
    Nice to save.

Totally confused about what is going on at TalkTalk / Tiscali, some people have been told price rise, press releases saying they are honouring old Tiscali Contracts and they are also working out new packages that might tempt old Tiscali customers to stay. Seems like chaos reigns at TalkTalk with no clear idea of where they are heading. Im on a Tiscali £7.99 per month unlimited broadband only, still no letter as yet, do you think they missed me .??

I've not had a letter yet either. I know two other people on Tiscali, one has had the letter and the other hasn't. Your not alone, perhaps we're not being changed.

I've been with Tiscali for 3+ years, taking their Tiscali Max Unlimited plus Anytime Talk II package @ £17.99/month. Line rental is through BT.

I got a letter a week ago welcoming me to Talk Talk that stated that my price was reducing to £18.99/month & increasing my speed to 8Mb :rotfl:.

No other details other than this new package takes affect on 26th Feb. I'm still in the dark what my 'new' package offers me in comparison to my original Tiscali package eg. do I still have free calls (for up to 1 hour) to UK 01/02 numbers & free international calls to selected countries?

I'm in a rural location, so my local exchange only offers me a limited set of alternate suppliers. :(

" Recently we wrote to you welcoming you to TalkTalk to remind you that throughout 2010 we would be moving you onto the TalkTalk brand. We also informed you of some changes that will be occurring in February.

We are aligning all our customers' packages with the great value offers available within the TalkTalk group. This means that from 15th February, your current package will be changing to up to 8Mb superfast broadband (subject to line and location) with Anytime Talk and Line Rental at a monthly subscription of £22.48 a month †.

Sign up for 18 months and we'll also give you:
Your first 2 months at half price*
Upgrading only takes a few minutes and as soon as it's complete you'll be eligible for your next 2 months subscription at half price!
    Just visit talktalk.co.uk "

I've just received this email from Talk Talk wanting me to sign up for the above deal, as I had signed up late last year for 18 months with Tiscali - what do you think about this offer peeps, has anyone gotten a better deal out of them - I've posted earlier on this thread so welcome any comments.

  • The Guardian Money article on 30 Jan quotes a Talk Talk spokesman as saying that those who signed with Tiscali or altered their package between Sep and Dec last year will be offered 6 months at half price if they start a new 18 month contract with Talk Talk. There is also an option (for everyone in contract?) to complete their contract at the existing price.

This is very different from the "take it or leave it" letter I got in January. I've since had an email offering 2 months at half price but I'll wait and see if they send anything else. If not I'll phone up and refer to the Guardian article (similar quotes also appear on a number of broadband websites-Talk Talk u-turn etc.)

My other comment about the whole business is that the "alignment" of packages is mostly a price alignment. Tiscali customers are not being offered even what's advertised in the Talk Talk Essentials package but are being asked to pay that package's price of £18.48/ month.

The differences are NO free local calls, NO free 0870 or 0845 calls in the evening/weekend and NO freephone nos. for Customer Service or Tech Support. These are all advertised features of the Essentials package.

I accept that Talk Talk have no legal obligation to offer any of these things but I don't think it's nice if you're being charged the same and getting lesser treatment. It's like the building society ad where the guy says "That's only for new customers, That's only for new customers" etc. etc.
  • Phoned Talk Talk today pointing out Guardian article. Was offered 6 months at half price if I started new 18 month contract.

Said I preferred to keep existing price for the remaining 14 months of my present contract. ( I started £14.99/month package of line rental, 8Mb broadband and free weekend calls last October ).

After some time on hold this was agreed and I will have the difference refunded without having to extend my contract so I stay on same package and no price increase. Thought this might be of interest to some of you.

    Cheers, Gavv

    yet another confused person here!

just received the infamous letter - i signed up to tiscali line, anytime calls and bb Unlimited) for £19.99/month plus 41p for 1571.

Am I right in thinking that as the letter says "if you would like to keep your existing service, you don't need to do anything and your price will change to £22.48/month" this means that if I swallow the price increase and don't take up their kind offer to "upgrade" to their inferior offer, I keep my original allowances as above and am not subjected to either new 18 month contract or the 40gb download cap? (I may be moving within 18 months so really don't want to get tied in as don't know what will be available in new area).

sorry if I'm being a numpty - I have read through most of the thread, but ended up even more confused.

Whether you are contracted or not the 40g rule now applies unless you pay their highest rate.

  • As anyone can see from my earlier posts I left Tiscali in December. Unfortunately, I am still banging away trying to get them to either give me a final invoice or issue a refund . Monkeys would have more sense than them . Can anyone tell me how I can get away from them , they are sending me nuts . To make matters worse they have introduced another system that one has to go through to e mail them , and I refuse to phone them at their exhorbitant rates.
