Sorry you got a 'friendly but sarky' reply at first. But people do get a bit fed up with all the random old threads that keep getting bumped every day by newbies who have somehow missed the sticky info we have at the top of the forum board.
Read the 'sticky' threads called 'welcome, please read before posting' and 'PPC letters, what to expect'. Make sure you watch the Watchdog clip on one of those stickies:
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/...play.php?f=163
Bottom line = this is a scam.
Ignore the letters, DO NOT APPEAL, but read the forum stickies I mentioned first. Then read any other private parking co (PPC) thread that catches your eye on the link to the whole forum view - you will see a pattern with the advice given every single day on here.
It's just a game of playing snap with each scary letter that matches our sticky info. Been there, done that myself.
Oh, and welcome to MSE, you just dodged a SCAM.:T
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

I had another lovely letter from gw.
So as I was bored , I rang up asking to speak to a real solicitor and guess what the silly muppet said to me!!!
"You have to pay to speak to a solicitor" I nearly wet myself laughing!!!!Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

Hi, just reading about all the parking tickets on here. My partner and I have just been to a retail park in Stokport,, both of us were in a car each (our own cars). We just went for something to eat for maybe an hour, was about 5pm when we got there and left around 6.30pm ish. We came out and both cars had parking notices on. I had no idea that it was pay and display at this time. Loads of spaces and it is usually to deter people from going into the town centre, but thats during the day time. Everyone on here is saying ignore these Excel people, but I am just a little nervous as us both having been done I cannot afford for the fines to go up to £100 each. Its £60 each to start off with!! This firm sounds like a bunch of robbing so and so's. I normally always buy a ticket in car parks, but as I say I didn't think I would need to buy one at such a time of night. Do I risk the ignore route????? Thanks0

Yes, just ignore and they are not FINES!What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0

Thanks. Have you had experience of these? We were gutted, as it would make it a very expensive meal!! I know they send out solicitors letters etc as I've seen them at work, and they are very good at scaring people.
Knowing my luck, all this would go pear shaped and I'd end up paying a fortune x 2!!0
