As you will only be just above breaking even and as Pavlovs_dog says you really dont sound like you want to go back then I wouldnt. Is there not a pt job (eve work?) that could fit around your oh's work. Thats what I did with my first , admittedly when OH walked in the door I walked out but it really suited us at the time.
I know a couple of people who make decent money from Kleneze & Avon. With reference to adult co I know what you mean - couldnt you make regular lunch dates with your old collegues and let your mum babysit.
I now work from home and am very busy - sometime I do miss being in an office but when I think of my old horrible manager, and the office !!!!!iness, and having to ask for holiday months in advance I quickly realise how lucky I am.0 -
Lillibet, I agree, if you don't want to go back then don't. It can be done honestly and who the hell made the rule that women have to work to get respect? If you can manage without the money (It may be tight but it is feasible) then you carry on doing the worthwhile job you have been doing so far.

lillibet...........huge hugs......i know what its like to be feeling like that.after the birth of my first dd in 2003 i felt exactly the same so went back part time, but i hated it....i eventually left after a few months and have been a SAHM ever since and i wouldnt change it for the world.
i think i only went back initially because i 'thought' i should and i was more worried about what people would think.i was soooooooo unhappy though and it didnt bring any more money in aftereverything was factored in.
only you know how you really feel but if you dont want to go back-dont- it doesnt seem to make any financial sense for you.there are other ways you can get that adult conversation and time etc.
have you discussed it with your husband? although mine was supportive about me being a SAHM i did need to sit down with him a while into it and discuss ground rules so i wasnt taken for granted etc.being at home with a child is a full time job in itself!!!
i hope you come to a decision soon.0 -
Hi Lillibet
I know how you feel - even though it is a while since I had to make that decision! Over the years I have done a few different part time jobs when things got tough financially, but I have never really regretted the choice we made at the beginning.
To be honest, some people might think we went without certain things, but our children have very fond memories of camping holidays in Cornwall - we had our first "sunshine, aeroplane & hotel" holiday last year, as we are now down to just one child at home and can finally afford such luxuries. I don't think we missed out too much!
Our DD now has 2 babies & has just gone back to work part time, but her fiance looks after the babies on his day off & his mum has them on the other day which is her day off, so they are with family all the time.
No one can make the decision for you, you really do need to do the calculations - not just financial - and follow your heart.
As I say, I have no regrets. My children would have missed me more than my ex colleagues in the office did! And although my job has lousy pay - the job satisfaction is brilliant!0 -
Jo - ((((hugs)))), sorry you are having a bad day, about to PM you.
Went into work today to discuss redundancy/job changes. Everyone is telling me to go for my bosses' job - but not sure, don't know what to do!!

Hello everyone! :hello:
(((((hugs)))) to all those in need.
Well, I'm completely exhausted! I didn't sleep well over the weekend and then this evening, after school, we had the most boring staff meeting ever! It was truly dire. The consultant that came in to talk to us was changing her story every time a different question was asked and so we were confused..... and bored and frustrated.
The house that we looked round on Saturday was quite small..... I know that we're first time buyers, but I'd like more than a shoe box. We've realised that a town 7 miles up the road is slightly more affordable, so we're going to do some research there too!
OH did a barbie for my parents' on Saturday. I think that they were suitably impressed and now think that he is even better than before!
OH has also had a "lightbulb moment"! He's realised that although we have a decent deposit to put down on a house, we also need to save up for stamp duty, fees etc. He's officially clambered on board the OS wagon! :j :j
Our wedding list opened at the weekend too. My mum (who is against wedding lists - we're only sending them out to people who request it) text me today to say that she thought that we didn't have enough on the list because we don't have enough choice. If anyone wants to pass comment on it, please PM me and I'll let you have the website details. Your advice and comments would be gratefully received and appreciated!
Take care
