I think that I've worked it out......bear with me....

Larmy posted last night to say that she'd had a bit of a bumpy ride with marketplace sellers not taking the whole thing seriously enough like not posting out when they were supposed to or emailling out of courtesy when they was a problem etc, I can add to this with an experience with a book ordered in the first week of December for my sons pressie that turned up in mid January (just posted, not the POs fault) - by then he'd gone back to Uni so I had to pay out myself to post it from home to his flat so I was doubly miffed.

Larmy said that we all deserve a pat on the back for being responsible in our dealings and I agree wholeheartedly, FFM and I had a little conversation on the thread last week about how if I buyer gets badly treated by a marketplace seller they might think twice about buying from the marketplace again and look elsewhere for their purchase so sadly one bad seller reflects on all of us.

These little pleas for a sale are our 'reward', it's all Karma and what you give out you get back and if you treat people with care and respect then you'll be rewarded (maybe you have to suggest to the universe that it's your turn :o but the principle applies)

So that's my theory, we are all jolly nice people who deserve our successes -

No, I am not asking for more of their profit to go to royal mail, but the seller sets the price and if they need more profit out of the book after fees etc then the price should be higher.
The packaging was great and Ive got no real gripe with the seller, i contact ed them and said that i would'nt leave feedback as I wasnt happy but it wasnt worth spoiling their record over.
I have sold books in the past that cost nearly £2 to post but I always send first class as I knew what I would receive after fees and was happy to sell it for that.
I can understand it for a book that will cost £1 plus to post via second class as thats getting near the allowance but it would have cost less than 20p more than what she paid, surely they dont need the profit that badly !

    Hi there

All I'm trying to do is put over the point of the seller, not to have a pop at you. I like these boards because they are friendly and everyone gets along nicely

That extra 20p is only going to go into the pocket of the Royal Mail - you will not have got a better service from the seller, because RM do not sort packages into 'slow piles' and 'fast piles' and the seller would have got less money.

I understand that some sellers on here like to send First Class and that's okay, but I would never ask a seller to spend extra on postage if it wasn't actually going to make a difference to the delivery time.

I generally understood the allowance to be so you can provide the same delivery that amazon do ie first class, is this not the case ??

Can everyone give a quick poll of what service they use, and does that depand on any factors ?

No, that's not the case. As mentioned it is a flat rate of £2.75 for any book regardless of weight or size, with actually only £2.30 odd going to the seller.

So swings and roundabouts from the seller's point of view - what you lose on one book you will gain on another. I appreciate what you are saying as a buyer, but as mentioned, a seller will price their book in the first place according to the amount of profit they will make including the postage allowance.

I send everything second class and always get comments on feedback about my fast delivery. I wouldn't pay the extra to send first class, even for very light parcels where the difference is minimal. The only time I send first class over second is when the buyer has spent over a certain amount on the item, say £20 and then I'll maybe pay the extra depending on what kind of day I'm having ;)

That is absolutely the case - when buyers bother to reply to my "Item dispatched" emails to confirm receipt as I request them to do (not often I can tell you!), I find that my items sent second class almost always arrive the next day.

Not really sure what you asking for? We have all discussed and decided that 1st and 2nd class are irrelevant. I send ALL books 2nd class, end of story. I send about 5-10 items a day (sometimes more sometimes less). I print off details and pack immediately I receive confirmation. I take my packages to the PO and say " second on all of these" then they do it.

The Price charged by Amazon is a standard price, we cannot change that. Scart leads are on Amazon for 1p, I think it is CLEAR to any buyer that you cannot buy these for 1p, but when they throw on £5 delivery, the buyer realises why it is listyed as a penny.

To say that someone doesnt need 20p 'that badly' is a ludicrous statement. I do need 20p badly, I need a hundred sales a week with 20p extra making £20 extra, this is why they say 'every penny counts'.

If the seller spent that extra 20p, it would not have made 1 difference to how or what you received, the single only difference would be that the seller would be 20p down.

If you import something from abroad and have to pay customs, you don't pay it on what you purchased (declared value) it for, you pay for the declared value AND the postage cost because that is part of the overall cost price to you. In other words, it's what you was willing to pay for the item.

If you buy a book for 1p, and the postage was £5, you are willing to pay £5.01 for that book. If the buyer is not happy with that overall price for the product then they clearly should not make the purchase. And to say they are not happy is an insult. The question to ask themselves is 'Did you get the product you wanted, in the condition described, for the amount you was willing to pay' If the answers are yes then thats the end!

Thanks funky monkey its hard to know when someone is popping in my direction ! I also notice that some people can be more critical of those who are not long time posters on this thread.

Another point to consider is that the majority of your buyers dont sell on amazon, dont read this board, and dont know the time it takes to package and post an item so aren't educated like i now am ;) and if one of them had received this particular book at the price they paid for the postage they may well request a refund. More hassle all round. Perhaps if it had said 'all books posted via 2nd class but will be despatched same/next day' I wouldnt have thought twice about it and still bought from them.

    Comicmankev

all I was asking was wether this was standard to send things 2nd class. I was happy with what I got and how much I paid but felt that it was a bit unfair to send such a small item ( and it is a small item ) second class.

Im asking you all in general cos if I spoke to my hubby all i would get is 'huh !'
and whilst YOU may have all discussed and decided it I have not, and wanted a bit of feedback. Ive never been on this thread before, and havent read through the many pages, hence my comment in my first post of not knowing if this has been covered before.

please tone down the 'ludicrous' and alike , if my opinion offends you then I apologise but theres no need to be-little me. I came here to sound off and get a differing opinion, and actually mine has been changed by many peoples comments, what else is the point of such a forum?

edited as first one made no sense, hope this ones better !
