I will try it now and let you know the results of the surveySee the stars they’re shining brightEverything’s alright tonight0 -
Haven't been on here for ages, but have had a good read of the posts so here goes:well after a busy weekend things here in seabiscuitland have been very slow both on amazon and my new ebay trial shop - will wait til the end of my free trial to see if its worth keeping it open (need to sell more than £6 a month with it to be viable)
seabiscuit - just wanted to say that I also have an ebay shop and have been selling on it for about 6 weeks and I wanted to say to you - hang on in there. Obviously I understand that you might not want to pay £6 if you don't sell in your first month but I wanted to let you know my experience so that you have an informed decision. My first piece of advice is to ensure that you have selected the 'accept best offer' box when you list because it enables people more choice on what they want to pay and from experience they haven't offered stupid prices, the lowest was £3 below my asking price, this week I sold one that was only 50p less and if it gets me a sale & a profit I will accept. I have listed 20 books on ebay so far - it is very slow listing so it will take about 3 years to list my amazon inventory on there, but I have sold 9 of those in 6 weeks and if you compare that ratio of sales (about 50%) to my amazon sales (sold 100 of 600 books) about 15% you can see it is the better option in some ways, plus the fees are sooo much lower even with paypal. So ebay is much slower but I am selling books that won't sell on amazon and for good prices therefore it is totally worth it. Good luck!so I changed my item to "Used, as new" and dropped the price. The "Buyer waiting " sign disappeared .
How do I know if there is really a buyer waitng or not?
Jazzy_b - Firstly you are right to list it as 'like new' rather than new as sellers can only pre-order an item to be used, the button says 'request this item used'. Secondly for you to sell your item you will have to set it at the price that amazon suggest but you will also have to match their condition level, and since you are doing it as like new you will cover that just fine and it should sell within hours so what I propose is you tell me the title and I will check the amazon pre-order list for you and see if it's on there, what the price is and when it expires, it's unlikely but it could have expired the same day, they can only pre-order for up to 3 months.
Mish & comicmankev I hope that we can agree to disagree on this little 'tiff' about the postage and agree that we should all be nice to everyone on these boards - there is no such thing as a stupid question is one of MSE's policies. I see both sides, I always post 2nd class and I don't get upset with the postage when I buy from amazon but thats because I sell. I also think they could have splashed out on that extra 20p for first class, but then again, if we all agree that 1st class really makes no difference than whats the point of giving our money to royal mail when we could be giving it to another marketplace seller, who could be a single mum trying to make ends meet or whatever. I can see the point you are both making and am deciding to be 'switzerland' - I am taking a neutral ground.
On another note, the amazon pre-order list is going well am watching a book on ebay that could go for a great price and make me a nice profit, I downloaded the music one the other day and have found 6 rare pieces of music on ebay of all places! 2 are on the way to me now from USA and will make me £75 and £50 in profit, plus I am watching 4 more - I could search for rare music and books all day as my full-time job at this rate! It also feels good giving people things they may have been searching for, for years.
My final note is MOAN & WHINGE coz I have only sold 2 books this week on amazon, it is def quiet right now!

oooh! The moan really does work!!!
I just sold a weird one too - PCs para dummies - thats the spanish version of pcs for dummies - and it is going to spain (was worried for a second that someone may have ordered the wrong one!). Only sold for £5 but better than nothing!
Thanks amazon thread for giving me some of your magic!
I might give that royal mail print your own stamps thing a try! I really love how it gives you a total run down of all the different postage options available to you and next to each one is the price, how many days it will take, how much it is covered for etc. Tis very good. The thing is that I don't trust my local PO - the woman is totally moody, never says please or thank you, has a constant scowl, never gives me proof of postage until I have asked like 4 times (even tho I am in there almost every day) and I am sure she is making me pay more coz I asked for the 'cheapest method' the other day and it was like £6 then I said to her, well what about small packet, wouldn;t that be cheaper and she said - that's £4 - there was no sorry I almost overcharged you when you just asked me for the cheapest method, she just don't give a crap - so I think this might just save me money - I will risk the lack of proof of postage for a while and see what happens (except for pricey items).

I'm tempted to whinge, but I'm thinking this thread's magic is like gold plating: if I rub the lamp too much the copper will show through!
I almost always post things second class. The exceptions are for heavy books that won't go second, expensive books, on those occasions when I can't get to the PO same or next day (rare), or if the book is very light and there isn't much difference in cost. As people here have mentioned, the class of postage doesn't seem to make much difference to delivery time.'Everyone loves to read but it can be a real nuisance when you lose your place. Here's a solution. When you finish reading a page, just tear it out. You'll save money on bookmarks too!' -- Amanda's Handy Hints, Amanda Keller. :cool:0 -

Would some one send me the buyer waiting list pretty pretty please?
Also since I havent had a biggie sale I am now having a big MOAN0 -
I've just started selling on Amazon after a sebatical of a few months (well, 6 months actually)
I've sold about 9 books so far and have only had 1 feedback and that was 1 out of 5 for not sending a book out.
Is there any way I can clear this negative feedback - can I contact the buyer to ask for it to be removed (it was left in December)
At the time I was having some personal problems and couldn't really get the book out to the buyer
All books are sent on the day of purchase or next day now
