  • Well even after all the edumacation I get on this thread, I had a great big learning experience today - sold hardcover book for £5.99 - got to pos office, cost £6.50 so I said (with tears nearly coming down my face, and only having a vague idea of what I was asking because of the generous experimentation carried out by another Amazon MSE’er) could it be cheaper by small packets or something? so the post office man had a look and got it down to £5 or so. A big near miss - me thinks...
Another thing is that I just received a book back saying addressee unknown but I double checked and the address I put down is the one I was given. I have emailed him but where do I stand on having to pay for postage twice if the mistake is his end???
    Thanks in anticipation
I am getting all organised the last few days, I have the Viking direct envelopes, a role of thick clear tape, my return address printed out (multiple times) at work, a scissors to cut off the dispatch address, pre-printed invoices with blanks where I can put purchase details so that I can post even if I cant get to work (don’t have printer at home), a role of brown paper, a black marker, kitchen weighing scales, post office pricing. Even bought loads of stamps on MSE advice, a few months back, before the postage went up (this is a mixed blessing though as I am sure the post office staff think I am a bit of a wierdo) but ready for anything now.

    Thanks again to the pioneers.

If you telephone Amazon Customer Services you could check the address with them to see if it has been successfully used before. You can also ask them to put a comment on your order so that if the buyer tries to start an A-Z claim for non delivery and no contact Amazon will have it on record. If you do get a new delivery address Royal Mail are usually quite good at redelivering for free (so long as you have not reopened the package). Just write the new address on the front and put it in a Post Box - not sure how a Post Office will deal with it, they may want to charge you again.

I do tend to avoid Post Offices - I don't like all the queueing - takes up too much time and upsets the other customers. I put everything into Post Boxes, I very rarely have a customer claim non delivery - but then I tend to sell mostly books and I think that makes a difference. My return label makes it quite clear that the contents are books so I don't think it appeals to anyone other than the intended recipient.

I'm begining to ramble now :rotfl:

if i offer the replacement - should i ask for the first copy back to check it?

    Absolutely!

But try to word it so that it doesn't sound as if you're checking up on them, if they're genuine they might feel upset that you don't believe them, if they're trying to pull a fast one they could damage it to make sure that it is faulty.

I hope this works out well in the end.

    righto refund update

    after my second polite email

we now have an a-z case opened

so anyone want to help me put together a case to reply to them

    please?

I would just say it's been 2 months since sale, item you sent was brand new & sealed, buyer has unsealed it & didn't return within the specified 7 days so no refund offered. Amazon should side with you as it's there T&C's your using!

I didn't realise it had gone this far.

I would suggest that you phone customer services for 'a chat' before going into writing, I do prefer a conversation rather than an email - it is easier for you to judge how Amazon see things.

So long as you remain calm and willing to provide a good service they are usually very understanding - I think you need to get Amazon on to your side in that you would like the video back and stress to them that you are not refusing to refund and have offered to replace the video - but that it should be returned to you first. Stress to them that it was brand new and sealed and that you had no reason to suspect it would not work.

If you refund the A-Z claim is closed and it doesn't count against the buyer (they have a lifetime maximum of 5 claims).

If Amazon refund on your behalf they deduct the money from your account and you do not get the video back - but it does count against the buyer.

I have heard of Amazon refunding when the buyer claims non delivery, the seller can provide proof of posting and they don't back charge the seller - but I doubt this would be applied in your case.

I've only had a couple of A-Z claims in over 5000 sales so I can't really offer much advice. Perhaps you could let us know how you get on so that we can learn.

    Fingers crossed for you.

  • Thanks again folks

I spoke to Amazon this morning and they were unsure what to suggest - they could see my point of view and they basically said it was up to me

Ive replied to the claim saying I was following Amazons terms & conditions

so will let you all know

  • Another sale for £1.97, slowly getting this pile down now! Currently have 209 items listed now, will probably be putting some more on this week as I have found some more videos hiding upstairs which don't get watched.
