  • I would just requote this part "To be eligible for a refund, you must return your item to your seller in the same condition you received it, and the return must be postmarked within one week of receipt" & tell them it is in the paragraph below the one they have sent you. I certianly woundn't refund or offer to send another, 2 months is way too long & the buyer could have done anything to it in that time.

I just got my first sale in over a week..a £10 book.

Trouble is, I went to check the book against my listing and realised with utter horror that I had listed it under hardback when in fact it was softcover...eeek.

I immediately emailed the buyer and apologised profusely and offered her a full refund but she has been great and says she still wants it. Mind you it is the only copy anywhere.

My heart is still pounding now, I can't think how I made such a stupid mistake when listing.

  • Hi Seabiscuit

I hope you don't mind my suggestions, and I don't want to be controversial as I realise that you are a good and honest seller, but have you considered that the buyer may also be genuine? What if the buyer bought the video from you in good faith, wrapped it up and sent it off to their father for fathers day only to find it did not work?

If I bought a brand new sealed video from Amazon Market Place I would not open it and try it out to see if it worked - if it was factory sealed I would assume that it was brand new and had no faults (as you did). If it was not sealed I probably would watch it to check before sending off as a present.

At the end of the day Amazon will probably take the side of the buyer and refund under the AZ agreement, you could end up with no video and no payment.

My suggestion would be that you contact the buyer and ask them to return it to you for a full refund - you can then sell it on if it turns out not to be faulty and you will not have made such a large loss. Also, you stand the chance of getting good feedback for good customer relations.

Hope you don't mind my suggestions.

  • Forgot to mention, I think the offer of a replacement is a good idea, especially if it reduces your losses.

No worries - Im torn 50:50 between believing the buyer and not

The thing that tends me towards not believing them is that it is a disney type cartoon feature film (and also has been on telly in the last 6 months) this and the fact it is soo much cheaper now on amazon makes me wonder

if i offer the replacement - should i ask for the first copy back to check it?

Seabiscuit: I think you would be in the right not to refund. Your idea of offering a replacement is a generous compromise, but I would be inclined to ask her to return the original first.

If she leaves negative feedback I'd also contact Amazon and ask them to remove it on the grounds that their T&C's clearly state returns should be made within seven days.

    Good luck.

They bought a cartoon as a Fathers' day gift?

I'd offer to replace it and if they say no, that would be even more suspicious!

I'm sorry, but it's not likely that a sealed tape would be faulty! They have to return it to you first whatever happens.

After that amount of time, just tell them that after you have testing the tape yourself, and checked that it is in the same condition you sent it out in, then you will issue a replacement only.

SB that is what I hate about videos having to sit and watch them. I recently bought one of an old band The Mission, it was v. depressing music but just near to the end the tracking went all funny, so I had watched all that for nothing!!!

My sales have completely dried up so I am having an almighty whinge - and do you think stamping of feet is going too far?

I know that you are in the right regarding the refund, but I probably would have done it just to get them off my back. Thankfully those sort of customers are few and far between. Good luck though.
