I've just spent a day re-grouping all my books into new see-through plastic crates with lids. I've got nearly 800 books etc now so I thought that I had enough to put genres together (until now they have been grouped in boxes by size more than anything else because that made the best use of the space if all the same sized books were together).

I had a brainwave as well - I bet the everyone else does this but didn't think that it was worth mentioning because it's so flippin obvious - before I put each box away I took a digi photo along all the books spines in each box so now I know where to look with exocet pin point accuracy rather than having a hunch that it's in this box, or is it in that one...lol.

I printed the photos out so now if I ever get really bored I can check that they are all actually listed for sale, I know that in the past I've put in a pile to list and for some reason or another they didn't get done and then a few weeks later they have all been amalgamated into the stock and I've lost track of them.

I feel so Anthea Turner today!!!!

Great idea AT - I was (still am) going to buy some plastic crates tomorrow - need to get organised... not that I am selling much at the moment (whinge whinge!) I did sell a popular chick lit book earlier last week, I had bought it new to read, so it was nice to make a few pennies back on it (tho no profit!)
Well done apprentice - a good job jobbed!! My hubby put some shelves up in the garage for me and mine are all in genre's in alphabetical order on the shelves. Mind you I only have about 370 listed so it's ok to do this - not sure how I will go when I hit 800 like you - might have to pinch your idea!!

Are your books in boxes/crates or just on the shelves? (Or is that a really silly question!??!) I get a lot of creepy crawlies in my garage, so not keen on putting books in there, but need to increase my stock to increase my income, particularly as I have just been made redundant :j following the end of my mat. leave. There isn't much room in the house for a load of books, so garage may have to be the answer...

I sold one to a university this week and another to a school - is this common?

    Hi Annie,

I've not sold any to a school but have sold 3 or 4 to people whose address was a University so am not sure if they were staff, researchers or students... They were books I had used on my Uni and post-grad courses so never going to look at them again!!!!

Ok, another question: I actually made a smallish amount on the romance novel mentioned above, and think it might be worthwhile listing a few more if I can pick them up fairly cheaply. Unfortunately I very rarely see them in charity shops. Anyone know where you can find them? Car boot sales?

Hi Grimelda, I got quite a few romance novels [some hardback] from my local library for 10p each :j . Most of them had had their FEPs removed brutally [see posting 494 on this thread] but were otherwise ok. Might be worth checking out your local library if you haven't already. BTW can't remember who it was who was accused of selling stolen library books by a buyer so sorry if this suggestion brings back bad memories ;):o

I have sold to at least two schools, maybe three... same book (new) each time. Pretty sure it was for the school rather than someone working there. Felt a little guilty that I was making money out of a school, but not for very long!! Reassured myself that I was providing a service by sourcing the book (as it seems to be difficult to get hold of)!! (I'm learning!!)

Just on shelves for moment but will sort out cover for them eventually - and yes my garage has a large multi-species family of creepie crawlies all with boots on!!!!! But I just scream and hubby or son ( and sometimes dog) will come running and DESTROY for me!!!!

That a shame about redundancy - especially after mat leave I would concentrate on your amazon empire and get some more shelves up!!!!!
