Had a bit of a moan about lack of sales a couple of nights ago and have sold 3 in 2 days after a very quiet month. Seems to be no logic in how it goes..... hang on in there and hope you get some sales.
On the packaging debate, no poundland etc near where I live so have been buying large padded envelopes and cutting them in two, taping the edges with parcel tape - only takes a minute or so and that envelope then does 2 books and looks ok. Can use the same methos for 4 CDs. I fsales pick up might invest in a box from Viking but can't afford it at the moment.

Hi Juno,
her mistake so just hand over the 20p next time you go in a few weeks and fingers crossed it might sell for lots in the meantime

Hello all,
I'm new to this board, so I hope my question doesn't induce too many yawns!
I'm having a clear out of quite a number of my books that I'd like to try to sell on Amazon, but I think I've run into a major problem already. All my books are large reference type books that are also quite heavy (between 2 & 3 Kilos), so if I have done my research correctly, they'll cost £7.70 to post via Royal Mail standard parcels. This is obviously far and above the allowance of £2.75 charged to the customer by Amazon.
Having checked the prices of books already listed, I could quite see myself selling most of my books at a loss due to the postage charges.
Could anyone please suggest any ways of being able to sell my books without seeing myself out of pocket?
Thank you,
D.0 -
I am sticking with first class except in the odd case with cheap book, but heavy to post.Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

Welcome Divvyman, that is a bit of a dilemma. First thing to check with reference/academic books is whether they are the most up to date editions before you try to list them otherwise they are very unlikely to sell.
It is one of the drawbacks of Amazon that the postage allowance is set so you can indeed loose out on heavy books unless you can adjust the asking price to take it into account. If that's not an option have you thought of Ebay where you can set the postage? I know the listing is more complex but that might be your best bet.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do - the selling is addictive once you get going

Hi Divvyman and welcome.
The only suggestion i can make is that you price you items higher than the others so you can make a profit when you sell and provide a knock out description.
I'm happy as i sold a book for £25 yesterday.0
