  • Hi FFN - when I first started selling with them 4 years ago they certainly used to say that it had to be 1st class post, at the time the postage allowance was £3.75 (as charged to buyer) but when it went to £2.75 (charged to buyer) they didn't seem to be as strict but here in this page they talk only of the delivery time for 1st class

I think it is what you feel most comfortable with. I send all my items out within 24 hours by 1st class and state this in my description. As a customer it always impresses me when an item arrives first class and very quickly after ordering.

Larmy, where has your dog gone? He always bought a smile to my face and i miss him!
  • I agree about Larmys dog, as you might guess from my avatar I'm a cat person but he was a nice liittle dog and he made me smile too - campaign -get Larmy to bring back the dog....sign here....AT

Funkymonkey sorry cannot provide the link as I am too stupid! If you go to the sellers board though, you can probably find the thread, I don't think its on the first page though. Also I may have misunderstood it. The sellers though, too seem divided on first/second post and new/recycled packaging - Just like us :)

As for the little dog, he will be back as soon as my ds can show me where he is stored on the computer - I am utterly hopeless at these things, and no matter how many times he shows me, I never remember.

I cannot remember how to do a sale on ebay now! My last sale was about 6 months ago, and it all seems such a faff since I discovered Amazon (thanks AT), that though I have stuff to sell, I am reluctant to face the hassle of it.

    Hi Larmy

I always try to stay within Amazon's rules but have never found a statement that books should be sent First Class. Could you possibly post the link on here so that I can take a look?

FFM I think I may experiment with the second class thing, I am sure you are more knowledgeable about Ammy. As I say, I only started doing it because I had a few wierd customers and thought it would eliminate the chance of bad feedback.

I have to say, I have purchased loads off Amazon and nearly all bar one came by second class and I was not outraged myself. They seem to take two days after your order, or that is my experience.

FFM - here is the link - I hope it works. It only mentions delivery estimates for first class, so I don't know if this is significant. I expect a phone call to Amazon would clear the matter up??

You are right, it does not specifically state first class must be used.

Thanks Larmy I must admit to being quite pleased that you hadn't found an actual Term or Condition that we had to post First Class - it would cost approximately 30 - 40% more, and that's alot of money when you're already spending £200 per month on postage.

You're right about the Amazon sellers being split between the First Class posters and the Second Class posters, I was always in the 2nd class camp until someone could prove that Amazon said it had to be 1st. AT is probably right that the 'feeling' that items should be posted 1st class comes from the 'older' sellers who started when it was a stated condition.

If anyone is interested the latest discussion I could find was this one http://forums.prosperotechnologies.com/n/mb/message.asp?webtag=am-Uksllconnect&msg=4466.1&ctx=0

I'm doing a bit of a survey here - I don't want to waste money on 1st class if it's not needed so

I think that if a buyer is trying to decide between 2 books that are in seemingly the same condition and at the same price they are going to go for the one that promises 'same day, 1st class dispatch' even if mine is slightly higher in price I assume that my book will sell first

I think that putting this in the listing will make the sale, am I deluded? if you view this as a buyer how would you choose?

feedback please Amazon gang - tell me if I'm wasting money, yesterdays post office total for 11 Amazon items was £15.99, if I'd chosen 2nd class it would have been £13.27.

If its same or next day I always send second class, never had a problem to date.
I love this board, have "virtually" met so many lovely people, people I am honoured to count as friends.

Oh, I don't think I want to stir that one up - if it's not stated then it's not a T&C - I don't want to encourage them to add it.

Most of my parcels get there next day or within 2 days so my customers are happy. If they're happy - I'm happy :j
