Are you connected to an O2 unbundled exchange?

I have never known of anyone paying £18 per month for O2 legacy LLU broadband - less than £5 per month with the mobile discount is the norm.

Of course this is not the case.

    O2 Broadband Standard £14.50
    O2 Broadband Premium £18.00

If you are a mobile customer, you can knock £5 of that. Plus whatever discount they will offer to renew the contract....usually between £2.55 to £3.25 per month.

That is your opinion but it is not factually correct - those are maximum prices that no savy customer actually pays!

When I posted LeifGR did not even know which package they were on. The vast majority gain no benefit from being on the Premium package due to their line attenuation, so the Standard package is the most common.

£14.50 less £5 mobile discount = £9.50 less six months free or half price = £4.75. Some customers have had 12 months free.

Never had to pay more that £4.75 per month on the Standard legacy package since 2008 and I know that some customers have actually paid less than this. Similar retention deals are available on the Premium package.

LeifGR should call retentions himself and show his wife how to negotiate!

Of course what I write is is 'factually correct'. The prices are exactly as I have stated. The 'mobile discount' is exactly as stated. The discount for renewing the contract varies from 3 to 6 to maybe 12 months(as you claim).

It is your statement which fails the 'factually correct' test.
Just because you pay £4.75 doesn't mean that everyone else pays the same...and for you to claim it is the norm. That is just ridiculous.

No point speaking to sales, you need to speak to the retentions!

Call 0800 230 0202 and choose option 1 (Home Broadband), 5 (Leaving O2), then 2 (Leaving O2) and you will get offered six months free on legacy broadband.
just phoned and asked what deals they could offer me ,no threat off leaving .I was offered 6 months free BB no problem.

Thank you for posting your experience which confirms my point that six month free is the norm for retention deals.

It has been since at least 2008 and no arguing or threats to leave are necessary to get this deal on one of the best unlimited, unthrottled services available at a very good price.

Please don't be silly. It doesn't confirm anything.
If you bothered to do proper research, you'll find that there are variables; 3, 6 and possibly 12 months of free Internet. Disbursed as either free months or a discount spread over the year.

Did just that. Got six months free off a friendly fella, no hassles really. Probably down to the mood of the customer service representative you get on the line!

That's one of the LLU legacy tariffs. I don't remember the original cost for this, but do you actually need the Premium tariff?
Probably not - that is the next thing to investigate...

Thanks to all contributing, encouraging me to have another go!

As for the O2 phone discount - can you just get a PAYG SIM and use it minimally? Does it require regular top-ups?

£10 minimum every 3 months so you gain £60 a year plus £40 of call credit.

If you got 6 months free you will not need to top up for 6months so it will cost you £20 for an extra £30 off your annual cost plus you have £20 of call credit .

Thanks just did that today and also got six months free.

Was thinking about switching to Fibre broadband with BT or Sky, but I already get good enough speeds with O2 so decided to stay!

I'm going to call them tomorrow - my aim is six months free. Don't want the hassle of shifting anyway as I'm happy enough with my service.
