    o2 standard since july 2008
    currently - £14.50/month
signed up from 26/11/11 6 months free net.
june 2012, started kicking in the £14.50. could have got £9.50 / month but haven't topped up for mobile discount.

averaged £7.25 for the past 12 months.

i know tomorrow will end my "12 month contract" and it will just be £14.50 on standard, so i am free to call up o2 - likely ask for the same 6 months free.

i noticed i can get the o2 all rounder for £12.50 / month and can get the half price deal making effectively - £6.25. do i need to top up? it's states unlimited downloads but is there throttling? is it worth moving away from the o2 standard package? i don't usually top up the o2 mobile.

i remember on o2 standard it would be up to 8 meg, but i usually only get 3-4 meg.
on the new packages, it states up to 16 meg. would i get more? sounds daft seeing as it's just a different package, but same bt line?

could i possible get cashback from quidco/tcb for leaving o2 standard and joining the all rounder?

No you wouldn't get more. As you're only getting 3-4 meg that's what your line is capable of giving you.

My advice is to stick with the legacy Standard package as it's truly unlimited and non-traffic shaped.

    Hi

I am on legacy Standard package, just phoned because contract finishes on 4th December. I was offered 6 months free straight away. Took it.

You should be able to get a good retention deal, I have managed to do so for the last 2 years.

Currently on the Legacy package for £9.50 per month with 6 months free. Works out at £4.75 per month over the year, cannot beat that with anyone else.

i rang today and was offered half price for the year.

    £14.50 / 2 = £7.25 / month = £87.00 for the year

which is the same as 6 months free and 6 months £14.50.

asked if i could have the 6 months free as if I top up, then i get the further £5.00. adviser stated i needed to have topped up within the last few months to have this. - they didn't have this requirement last year!

advised i'd call her back. i'll see what another retensions adviser will say.

let's just say i want to maximise my deal!

has anyone pushed for a new router before?

I was just phoned by O2 and am in the same position as Bigbulldog, and I got precisely the same offer, which I took as I am quite happy with O2. The lady told me that they have a new retentions team who have been tasked with actively retaining long standing O2 customer

The current retention deal is half price for 12 months (rather than last time's 6 months free followed by 6 months at full price)

Those of us coming to the end of a 12 month extension are now paying the full whack.

You can start a new contract once you have completed 11 months (not 12).

So as soon as you complete 11 months get on to them for the new deal. It's applied to your account immediately, so means you don't have to pay full price for month 12 (the "old" contract ends a month early and you immediately benefit from the half price deal instead of paying the full whack for what would have been month 12)

eg. Current 12 month contract expires on January 22nd.

11 months completed on December 22nd.

Phone on December 23rd, agree a new half price contract deal and the new 12 months half price will start on December 23rd.

They are fighting a losing battle as long as they continue to refuse to offer a fibre product.
