Still paying £14.50/mth as I no longer have an O2 mobile. Moved to giffgaff as it met my needs then. Just being lazy and also wary of signing on to a 12month contract if they'll change my package to something crappy. It's been swell so far, don't want to lose it.
I was an o2 mobile customer for a number of years (5 i believe), so i was receiving the discount on broadband up until last summer when i moved to Tmobile. I totally forgot about renewing my contract which ended in May and only recently started researching other cheaper alternatives. I called and spoke to retentions and was reminded i am on one of the old unlimited packages for £14.50 as a non customer. They offered me the following which i accepted:
Thank you for choosing to stay with O2 Home Broadband on O2 Home Broadband Standard.
Your contract has been extended to 08/11/2012 and your loyalty reward of £4.89 monthly discount on Standard product will now be applied. We will let you know when this comes to an end.
If i or anyone i knew had an o2 number to attach to the account, the contract would have been free for the first three months. I was happy to stay with them as the service is fantastic, no complaints.I have enough money to last me the rest of my life... unless I buy something.0 -
i'm still on the old o2 broadband deal/legacy package. my last 12 months retentions deal is soon to expire, so i called to see what they can offer.
currently £14.50 on the old broadband standard with £5 off (£9.50 /month) was offered the same thing. tried to push for more/new router but was told that only by switching to the new packages could i get anything. i know that the legacy packages aren't sold anymore. i guess that little extra cost, is worth unlimited broadband and no busy time restrictions.
has anyone pushed for more on the old broadband packages?0 -
Deutsch,
See my post 134 (2nd Nov) and subsequent messages above. Kept my old legacy package and got 6 months free without having to push. Told it was available if you have been an O2 mobile customer for 2 years.0 -
Hi all,
Like most people I have just rang up and got the 6 months free on my legacy package.
The most interesting thing that cropped in the conversation was the talk of Fibre Optic Broadband (which he mentioned, I never asked). He said that it was coming from O2 "very soon" but would be unfair to give a date as it may change. He said that it is likely to happen in the next 6 months and I would receive an email about it and if I wanted to upgrade then they would see what offers they could provide.
Regards,

Does anyone know if traffic management applies to all packages or only the new ones? I'm on the old premium and I want to switch to a better deal, but some family members will be very cross if it ends up slowing down when they watch videos....0

I'm on the old Standard package also, I was just about to phone and ask for the 6 months free offer. I had actually had the phone in my hand but thought twice about it, I don't trust o2, they want people of the old Standard package.
Even though they may tell you that you will stay on your current package, who knows what happens at the end of the new 12 month contract your signing up to.
For the sake of a £60 saving, I'll leave well alone and stay on what I'm happy with,0 -

And the purpose of your post was what exactly? Grow some balls as they say, give them a ring and save some money.
It is very easy to get six month free and stay on the old legacy packages. O2 have lost many customers due to introducing their new traffic managed packages and they can't really afford to lose any more.
This is MSE - Pick up that phone and you will get an e-mail confirming the deal that you have just agreed over the phone. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

Only the new packages, all legacy pacakages remain traffic shaping free as just been confirmed by an o2 advisor.
I've just extended my contract, kept my old legacy package and recieved the obligatory 6 months free.

thanks Steve, just had confirmation from them, you are correct
the sticky point for me is that I want to add a phone service, and they said they won't do it with the legacy package.
will try some hard nosed bargaining, but I'm kind of stuck in a (nice) way, O2 are so good and I need reliable bb for business purposes, so I might just find another phone provider.
My OH would kill me if it gets slower when they watch videos...
has anyone else been able to add a phone line to a legacy package?0 -

I can confirm, I've phoned to ask about adding a phone line, and about traffic management, and they kept mentioning their retention team would offer 3-6 months free line rental.
Never had that before, the retention team is the one you talk to once you have confirmed you are leaving and you have to bargain hard with them...0
