02 Broadband - Retentions

I have been an O2 broadband customer for years. I just agreed with retentions to stick with them for 12 more months, switching from a legacy package to one of the new packages.
As part of the deal they sent me a new Wireless Box IV router, I already had a wirelessBox II router from them.
I received no return box or bag in my new pack.
What happens to the old Wirelessbox II, can I keep/sell it?
Thanks
Usually these boxes are "rented" from O2...
If they send you any letters/emails asking for the router back then they should 100% send you a prepaid return packet for it.
If you don't receive any letters from them in the next 1-2 months then assume that they have forgotten/aren't asking back for the old router.
I would keep it just in case the new one fails/starts misbehaving during the future in case you were thinking of selling it, as it would probably only bring £10 at the most on the good old auction site.
On a slightly stale note I think you would have been better staying on the legacy package on a rolling contract (30 days) and asking for something like £5 off your usual line rental and moan about cheaper broadband elsewhere i.e plusnet, talk talk etc.
Hope this helps:beer:!0 -

Thanks, yeah best hold on to it.
And well I got the 6months free deal. I was SUPPOSED to keep my legacy package (signing on for another 12 month). Then a month later I see a bill for the full amount.
So I rang O2 up, and it seems they were having trouble applying the discount to my account last month, the notes said they tried contacting me (which is a lie, as I was home a lot, and there were no messages on my answering machine for the rest of the time). And they just did nothing about it...
When I rang up last week, they said they cant apply it to the legacy package any more, so I have to go with a new package, or I can get my mac code and leave... good stuff ¬_¬..
I just decided it was easier to go to the crappier package and get the discount0 -

That's not too bad as it's only a 12 month contract and the first 6 months are free (im assuming you have been an o2 mobile customer for 2 years) then the all rounder only cost's £12.50 per month after that so not too bad.
Just don't expect great internet speeds for download (or other heavy bandwith stuff) in the peak night hours i.e. 5-10pm as there will be Traffic management going down!
Just search google for O2 broadband Traffic Management or shaping.
I'm currently on the O2 Premium Legacy package and get 12mb connection download and 1mb upload speed with no Fair usage or Traffic management for £13 a month :cool:0 -
in my case, previously on legacy package and was offered free broadband "all rounder package" as long as I get their home phone which is £7.50 per month. I took the plunge and the moment the home phone was activated, I experienced frequent disconnections to my internet connection, O2 sent me a couple of routers to make sure that it was not a router problem, and to make the story short, they have arranged an engineer to visit the site to check what is causing the problem, this happen in a span of a week from when it was activated. The Engineer from BT did a thorough check and nothing seems to be a problem, only when he went to the green box (I don't know that that is, maybe exchange?) and the engineer noticed that there was a cable which was loosen or something to that effect and from then on, never had any disconnections at all, download speed is between 17mb - 21mb whilst upload is on 1.3mb, quite happy with the result. Previously paying £11 for BT landline and £8 or £9 for broadband and now it's all £7.50 per month, indeed huge savings for me, oh, before I forget, I know that there is traffic management on the new package, but I managed to download movies (360mb file size) quite quicker as well (I thought it will take days because of the traffic management), and can play youtube and iplayer without the hassle of buffering . . . . so, happy ending for me. . . Thanks O20

I called o2 this weekend for my MAC as I'm leaving my o2 phone contract and would therefore lose my £5 discount (currently paying £9.50 a month on one of the legacy packages). I was advised I could continue on the £9.50 per month as I've been a long standing customer. Having read about o2 changing people to the new packages with limited usage a good few months ago I asked if this would happen to me. The advisor said I would stay on exactly the same package with no changes but he did say I would have to sign up for a further 12 months. Has anyone done this recently? I'm just wondering if I'm missing something or not asking the correct questions - it looks as if the packages have changed again on o2's website.
My router from them is quite old now - are they 'faster' these days?
Thanks for your advice - I haven't kept up with broadband offers as I've been pleased with the o2 service for so long.0 -
The only thing "faster" about newer routers tends to be wifi, in that they are N (up to 300meg) rather than G (up to 54meg). Other than that (and perhaps some "behind the scenes" features such as port configuration) your old router will still likely do the job you need.
No harm in haggling for a new router if you're prepared to take on a renewed contract. (Make sure you get in writing (email is OK) that you are renewing your existing contract, not taking out a new contract).0 -

Belated thanks, haven't been around much this week.0 -

TraceyJ, I am in the exact same position (out of contract on the very first Legacy package, paying £9.50 before mobile discount, feared I would be moved to traffic-shaping/renamed package after contract renewal). Please let me know the prices they offer you when/if you go into another 12-months.
Thanks!0 -
O2 Broadband has been great for me. I don't like their mobile network, but their broadband is fast and reliable!0

Thanks!
Just renewed my legacy contract for third year and once again offered 6 months free and 6 months at £9.50 (subject to mobile phone topup). Also supplied with new router.
