  • I'm amused to see members reactions to 'compers' posting on this thread.

I see 'taking over' as contributing to the discussion. Surely that's the whole point of the thread

I would also like to say that just because I may be a regular on the comps board doesn't mean I don't visit other areas of the boards. Having said that, I don't do it too often due to the rudeness and abuse that exists on the boards.

As usual people criticise and abuse rather than help and advise.

If these changes effect compers more than others then surely compers are the people most likely to discuss them.

Hi, I too am a comper pushing my head up above the parapet:D, to add my suggestion to other compers.

In my subscrition folder I have a file for each month, I then save the subscribed comp into the appropriate month depending on when the comp ends, then on the first of the next month I empty the folder, thus ending the subscription to the closed comp. Does that make sense?

This then keeps down my number of subscriptions on the go at any one time, but also allows me to keep tabs on my comps entered. Just a suggestion and seems to work for me;).

... the changes will actually have a positive effect for the vast majority of site users by speeding the site up (hopefully!)
I find some peoples comments abusive. I'm not going to go into detail because that would just start more arguing.

I'm not against any changes that improve the boards (speeding up of the site will be an advantage to us all), but I don't like the tone some people have used when referring to compers.

As a result of the discussion some great ideas have been put forward which if taken up, would reduce the need for subscribing to threads. That's a positive thing, some of the comments aimed at compers are negative and derogatory.

My name is Mamzie, and I have to admit I'm a Comper...

I would love a button, as I use thanks, and sometimes miss seeing that I've entered already when a comp has been bumped.

However I do subscriptions, but not a huge amount. I also use lots of folders within there to organise my subscriptions. I guess thats not much use with all the subs that may be deleted, but may help if you want to subscribe to more and empty it yourself.

If you go to User CP, then select - view all subscriptions, - you can choose to edit folders. Mine are set up for Expiry months/years, etc. But the best thing is when it comes to deleting, you can just empty the entire folder with 2 clicks, similair to an email folder. You can even wait a few months after expiry, to ensure you didn't miss a thread getting bumped for any reason.
My light may be on, but that doesn't always mean I am looking at the PC - I am far more likely to be cuddling or feeding Tianna atm, so please don't think I am ignoring you if I don't reply quickly :)

I'm a comper, but don't use the subscription in the same way as others have posted on here. I only use subscriptions for my daily entry competitions and ones that are broke or require visiting at a later date.

In reference to noting 'thanked posts', this is a more preferable option for me as I monitor what comps I have entered, by whether I have thanked them or not....however you can only see that by going into the thread (which is why a lot of compers use subscriptions, because it adds the 'tick' image beside the thread).

Is there any way that the database/script/programming can be altered so that when we press the thanks button, it could alter the envelope image beside the thread e.g.

I am so sorry about this, but I still don't understand what is intended. I've read every post--both before & after my previous admission--but can't get my head around the implications :o
In my little subs list, I have threads going back a few months & often suggest them to others. They are in clusters, with a fair few in a similar vein. Would it be possible to amalgamate those into one single thread instead of deleting completely, or is this more about freeing up space? I'm all for stream-lining the filing system, but not at the expense of losing potentially useful information but can appreciate the "cabinet drawers" have a finite capacity.

No threads will be deleted. It's only the old subscriptions to threads that will be deleted.

i dont get it, does this mean all the subscriptions will be removed and we dont know which ones we have entered like on the comps ending? where we have a tick next to them, will we not see these anymore?

I don't think so bunn. It says on the first post

"a large number of old subscriptions - every thread that hasn't been updated for 6 months or more will have it subs removed."

But I think that because of the comments made in this thread, they are reconsidering the situation because a lot of compers have threads older than 6 months.

  • I am a comper, but this isn't particularly a problem in that way to me, as I only ever use the thanks button and a notepad to remind me what date I'm up to! I only ever miss a few days and if I do I sort by thread start and then just play catch up.

My question is if I am contributing to another thread, e.g on shop but don't drop, will it no longer show up on my user cp ( which I look at daily) unless I subscribe to it on purpose? That's a shame as I quite like catching up with theads I have contributed to but I wouldn't always choose to subscribe to them. I'd be quite happy for subscriptions to be deleted though if nobody had posted for a while.

An 'entered' button would be great though!
