Hi, just to say I'm not a comper so don't really understand the issues around the subscriptions for compers. For most people subscriptions are just a way of keeping track and personally it doesn't bother me either way, can understand the need to speed things up and get rid of lots of historic stuff.
The reason compers are vociferous on this thread is because of the way the comp board works, no idea as I've never really looked at it. But there must be a better way of marking which comps have been entered? The thanks button is not really there for that reason.
As MSE have put some new buttons at the top for 'like it' and 'Spam' agree with Fermi that maybe a button for 'entered' would be good, so long as you could track it yourself.

My question is if I am contributing to another thread, e.g on shop but don't drop, will it no longer show up on my user cp ( which I look at daily) unless I subscribe to it on purpose? That's a shame as I quite like catching up with theads I have contributed to but I wouldn't always choose to subscribe to them.

As I understand it, yes you're right. However, I believe that you will be able to change the settings in your CP back to automatically subscribe to threads you post in. They're just changing the default from automatic subscription to no subscription - unless you change it back yourself. I think that's right..

I'm not having a pop at anyone , I don't go on the Comps board

I'm basically a DFWer and my subscribed thread s are about 25, most of them for refference info

How can people be subscribed to 10,000 plus threads and check them all:eek::eek::confused::confused::confused::confused:
That has got me totally baffled:cool:

    Hi Numpty

Some compers (myself included) subscribe to a thread if they have entered the comp, or simply don't want to revisit the thread. That puts the little tick against the thread meaning we know which ones we've finished with.

At any one time there are around 4500 comp threads and often threads are 'bumped'. If there's a tick next to it I know I don't need to open it again. It saves a huge amount of time.

I didn't know subscribing to so many threads slowed the forum and agree that anything that speeds it up is good for everyone. The reason for subscribing is that most comps only allow one entry and if you enter again you disqualify yourself. So it's important to know which comps you've entered already. Some people click the Thanks button as a way of recording but a) that's not what the button is for and b) you have to open the thread to check.

I enter around 1500 comps a month so that's an awful lot of threads to check.

Can I just ask if we can be told what exactly will be happening now on Thursday please? Or if we may be getting an entered button please?
My light may be on, but that doesn't always mean I am looking at the PC - I am far more likely to be cuddling or feeding Tianna atm, so please don't think I am ignoring you if I don't reply quickly :)

This will be a shame as I have subs on threads going back ages that do occasionally get updated by people searching for the same thing. :(

I was in this position too, but I'm not a comper. Wouldn't it have made sense to just ask people to delete their old subscriptions that were no longer needed? I've just done it, I had over 300 subscriptions and discovered that I only actually wanted to save 42 of them  I've set up a new folder in my browser and put a bookmark to each of these threads in it so that I can still get them back after the subscription changes go ahead on 15th.
