I am based in Bangor in N.IrelandCrumbs.. a cracked hard drive! this guy really doesn't know his stuff.. scary!
I think the best bet is get in writing what he replaced and all the work he did.. make sure its fully itemised with make and model. Worth asking him as well what he did with your old kit.
If they did replace the mb - its possible that its an old bios (software inbuilt onto the motherboard) which isn't recognising all the hard disk space - that used to be a common problem.. but saying that, I've not seen that happen for years.. if that is the issue - it should be fixable with a bios flash/upgrade but should be something the IT guy should have done at the time if he knows his stuff.
Also - if he did replace the mb - he may have reformatted it due to drivers etc and reinstalled xp
Personally.. I definately wouldn't give this guy any more money until you get a better idea of the work carried out.

PS - might be helpful to know where you're based so we can point you in the direction of someone better!I am determined to lose weight!:kisses3:

I think the user name might give it away!:D Based in Belfast (oops, Bangor - not too far wrong!), I believe.
Wouldn't I be correct in saying that the OP should be able to update the BIOS herself?Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0 -

Yeah, I can be rather technical, if I remember correctly! I did it once, but that was a long time ago!
It'd probably be even more complicated if the motherboard has been changed.Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0 -
Don't worry about it. It's highly unlikely a BIOS update would solve your problem anyway...irishgirl62 wrote: »i have not got a clue what a BIOS is never mind being able to update it!0 -
It depends on the motherboard they've used - its not normally that hard but it can go wrong on occasion.. and might not resolve anything. I'd say best bet is hold fire on anything else until you get an itemised invoice from the shop.irishgirl62 wrote: »Thats where I fall down cos i have not got a clue what a BIOS is never mind being able to update it!0

For future reference, you can use this to audit your system so that when you next take it in for 'repairs' you'll have an easy means of determining what's changed.0
