I thought the 2800+ was the intel equivalent needed?
For example: Athlon 2800+ 2.00GhZ is the same as an Intel 2.8GhZ, as Athlons do more work/turn. So they used the xxxx+ for comparison.0 -
I worked for a hard drive company. That is physically impossible. They are lying through their teeth.
If they did not replace the hard drive, why are you having to re-install all your software? It should have been there from the original install.
I wished I knew that earlier so I could have asked that question, but I will be back tomorrow cos I want to get the print out of what I paid £15 today for and also for the the £185I am determined to lose weight!:kisses3:

Just a thought, but does anyone think it might be a good idea for irishgirl to take a copy of this thread to the shop with her? There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.

I would suggest not at first, get the evidence in writing for trading standards/the police first. If the shop sees this thread they'll clam up, refuse to put anything down on paper and that'll be it.0 -
Either that or fix it properly and hope to stop the complaint being taken further. But it could go either way so probably not a good idea right now. There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.

that is what I was trying to get accrosss earlier, we know the guy i slying to you because he is making completly impossible claims, if you can get any evidence of any of of these completly ludicrous claims on paper you'll pe able to prove he's scamming you
I'm thinking he'll be a little reluctant to put any part of his con down on paper (and will probably try to get more money off you at the same time)0 -

I did mention it to him and he said they do not know what they are talking about as you have 80gb drive not a 8gb drive, I said.. but my memory shows up that I only have 8GB
half hour later he rings me says your drive is cracked which is why you have low memory, and said I downloaded scan somehting which took 4gb of the drive.. and I would have to pay him for £15 for looking at it and said it was definetly dropped showed me the inside of it where he had to tighten what looks like a fan, I siad it never was dropped it went from his shop to my craft room where it sat there without being moved until today. he then siad well it definetly has been dropped or shook cos there is no way what i put in it would have come loose!I am determined to lose weight!:kisses3:

If a hard drive was damaged in a drop it would either work or not work (or, very unlikely but remotely possible I suppose, lose a small amount of capacity by damaging a sector or even more unlikely, a significant amount by losing a platter). But not 72GB from 80GB. Impossible. There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.

Crumbs.. a cracked hard drive! this guy really doesn't know his stuff.. scary!
I think the best bet is get in writing what he replaced and all the work he did.. make sure its fully itemised with make and model. Worth asking him as well what he did with your old kit.
If they did replace the mb - its possible that its an old bios (software inbuilt onto the motherboard) which isn't recognising all the hard disk space - that used to be a common problem.. but saying that, I've not seen that happen for years.. if that is the issue - it should be fixable with a bios flash/upgrade but should be something the IT guy should have done at the time if he knows his stuff.
Also - if he did replace the mb - he may have reformatted it due to drivers etc and reinstalled xp
Personally.. I definately wouldn't give this guy any more money until you get a better idea of the work carried out.

PS - might be helpful to know where you're based so we can point you in the direction of someone better!0 -
Because AMD no longer manufacture processors that fit in that socket.Money_Grabber13579 wrote: »It is possible they are almost equivalent because I do know that AMD measure speed in a different way to Intel. But why not replace it with another AMD processor?0
