Hi Tich, I'm using a Nokia 6630, excellent deal I got on e2save.com – 30 a month, first 9 months half price. 500mins and 100 text’s with free Bluetooth earpiece.

The handset they provide has their own software on which has some options removed; the only one I noticed was the one to choose which network to be on. I did install some extra software to get around this and I’ve now got the option to lock the phone onto O2 (2g) using 3’s tariff, which will eliminate any roaming problems I may experience in the future at the new house. See thread:

The phone is excellent and I’d recommend it to anyone. Shortly after ordering the phone I had to wait for delivery over the weekend. I read so many horror stories on this board I considered canceling the order before I got the phone. I’m so glad I didn’t!

The battery life seems to be good, I’ve used the phone heavily (on 3g coverage) and it takes a few days to deplete (did after the first charge as I was testing it), but I’m one that leaves it on charge each night ready for the morning so battery life isn’t an issue for me. So far, after a days use, my battery bar is still on full.

If you’ve had problems on three before I’d recommend anyone to try out the 6630 – you can send it back within 7 days if you don’t notice any improvement! If you’ve got problems with the network switching I’ll assist anyone who wants to lock it to 2g.

02’s coverage at 3’s pricing, you can’t lose! (IMO)

Thanks, DMDz, you have helped me make my mind up and I will go for a Nokia 6630 with 3, as you rightly said if there's any problems with dropped calls the phone can be returned and contract cancelled within the 7 day trial period. Your post has been very helpful, if I need assistance in locking the phone to 2 G I will get back to you.

It might not be much, but after all the problems and problem sorting my OH did with 3, he's also just been given a £35 refund (?) as well as everything else, for the inconvenience he's had.

Which nearly covers the cost of complaint calls.

Maybe they've been reading this site?

Or maybe they were wrong after all?

Hi DMDz, went looking for a Nokia 6630 on Monday , the only local store who have them in stock is the Carphone Warehouse. As I have just been stung by the UKPHONESHOP who for the past 3 months have ignored my cash back redemption claim for my present 3 contract thought it better to buy from a local shop rather than online. The best deals @ CPW are 18 month contracts, but as I'd prefer a 12 month contract will be better off buying from E2save or OSPS, as they are a part of CPW hopefully will be more trustworthy to deal with than UKPHONESHOP. The Link & Phones4U are expecting delivery of the Nokia 6630 any day but couldn't say what the deal would be

We were surprised to see all the bad press dished out to 3! The wife and I have had a LG8120 each for about 6 months, both bought through Dial-a-Phone.

We live north of Norwich and have a weak signal. At home, we have to wait by a window to get some "bars". Once the handset has found a signal, the call can be flakey at times but, if you travel literally 100 yards nearer Norwich, the signal becomes perfect.

With 500 mins, cross-network, we have found the freedom to make calls to anyone at anytime. No-one touches "3" for value in this area. When I sounded out Orange, they could only off 30 mins for the same cost.

Videos! Ring-tones! So what! Who cares! Never bother!

We have used the supplied software and USB lead to load our own MP3's onto the phones to use as ringtones... and some daft people pay to get them! Do what!

...and you can get the photos off the phone in the same way and send them by normal email instead of paying "3" to send them.

  • How do you install the software to lock the phone to 2g is it through a cable or blue tooth? Also is it legal/legititmate to download, just thinking it may invalidate the warranty on the phone!

Sent it via bluetooth, then opened it. It was a sis file so you could install it like any other file (on the nokia 6630 symbian phone anyway), just open it and click install. It can be un-installed just as easy via application manager at a later date if you need to send it in for any reason.
  • Its prob me being thin but whats a nokia 6630 symbian phone? Would it work on all nokia 6630's? Is it legititmate to download?

Theres no such thing as a stupid question – trust me! Symbian is the OS (Operating System) that nokia have installed on the phone. Basically it gives you the nice interface to run and use the phone. Think of it this way: Symbian is what Windows is for the PC, but for the phone.

Its a legitimate download (as far as Im aware), and it works on my phone so it should work on all. If you are unsure you can always uninstall it if you are sending the phone in to be repaired etc.

3 Provide you with a modded version of that system, so you cant lock the phone down to 2g. This software has the capability to get to the options that 3 removed from the phones original operating software.
