Nokia 6630 On Three.

Have a Nokia 6630 on the network 3. Although I’m more than happy with their level of coverage where I live, I will be moving house into an area between 2g and 3g coverage, where the phone constantly cuts out for 30 seconds every few minutes.

I have seen posts where its possible to lock the phone to use GSM network (02) all the time. I have the same phone on T-Mobile, and it is possible to select the networks. 3 have nicely provided me with a handset with the option for network selection completely removed from the menu.

The T-mobile one was manufactured in January with software version 3.something, while the 3 handset was manufactured in March with software version 4.03.18. Is there any way I can get the option back to choose my network?

I was going to take the handset down to ClubNokia to fix an un-related fault with the earpiece, if I ask them to update the software will I get the menu back? Is there any other way of doing it?

Thanks in advance guys/girls!

i think they will still flash it with 3 branded s/ware (if it has been released in v4.03 on 3) so it will still have the same problem. it may be possible to reflash with generic s/w even though it wont unlock it

Have a look here - http://www.symbian-freak.com/quides/netmon.htm, you can use Net Monitor to lock to 2G/3G/both etc..

Thanks for the link, I've had a quick look. Have you any experience with this software?

To me it looks like you type in the 4 digit number to access various features. One of these numbers is the Leeds dialing code, which would mean I couldn’t phone anyone in my home city? Or have I misinterpreted whats on the webpage?

I used to use NetMonitor on several Nokia phones in my previous job as a mobile network engineer. Choose test 8101, execute 1 (for 2G only), or 0 for dual mode. The 'Leeds' one is just to use a test site - perhaps one used in a testlab or that hasn't been optimised yet. Don't worry about that, just follow the details at the bottom.
