Hi i have been trying to cancel my contract with "3" for last 3 months now, i have written twice to cancel and keep getting bills, on the phone for 2 hours in all trying to sort it out and they keep saying they are not getting my letters but the last one included a cheque and that was banked. I have just e-mailed them and am refusing to pay the bill. They even told us that the phone was still being used when it has been lost since january and the sim disabled. I would never go with this company again. Can anyone here tell me if i have the right not to pay the bill and what else i can do. Hubby is fit burst he is so sick of them so i am trying to sort it out, if anyone can give me any advice i would be really grateful. Thankyou0

Caz2? I'm not sure if you can 'get out' of the contract with 3 until the contract's up. My husband has had a hell of a job just to get a phone that works after about 10 months now, and he's had some compensation, but he's stuck with it. He went through all the correct channels (I think), and until Otelo were mentioned, he'd still be left with a phone that was not only dropping calls etc etc, but had been barred - by 3 when it was sent back for the 4th time! And he relied on it for work.
He's ok now because he has 2 back up phones (cheap ones), but my daughter is having the same problems now - and so far she hasn't been able to get any satisfaction ........ and she's a solicitor.
But I'll look through the paperwork my other half got and see who he was advised to get in touch with, (apart from Otelo), at: www.otelo.org.uk/content.php?pageID=100 but I think it's catalogued in this thread somewhere.
Hopefully someone that can explain the problems & solutions better than me, will do, and soon. But don't settle for inferior services. Complain and complain, then complain about complaining. To anyone that cares.
Good luck0 -

Hi
3 gets a lot of stick...as far I can see a lot of the problems are due to moving between 2G & 3 G areas. ok, i guess some people want the fancy stuff but i suspect most just want the cheapest calls.
last week bought both a 3 and an orange phone..the deals were too good to ignore as current phones reaching end of contract. as i live as remotely as is possible in uk I didn't really expect '3' to work....but for under £20 all in for the year seemed a reasonable risk! ok the orange samsung phone is smaller and more fashionable...but as you get older the bigger keys and chunky 3 phone are actually rather better. Orange connection obviously first rate. 3 mysteriously a little slow to pick up a signal but no problems at all with lost calls.
both phones were connected late pm 29/04. I,ve had (online) both first bills.
Orange: too complex for them to start the month on 1st...first period was six days. First bill they have double charged the monthy connection charge (as reported by others here on diffrent threads) plus pro rata for first six days.....even then charged from the day before i got the phone. Charged for itemised billing that had been cancelled. Automated responses (just saying the won't answer account questions!) from customer services using key works (so if you put cancell itemised billing they treat it as cancell the contract!). Unhelpful...indeed abusive customer services. On-line accounts system that wasn't working for much of the bank holiday...apparently nor was that at 'customer services'.
'3'. started the month on the first. no charge for the days at end of April. Bill correct. When sent an e-mail got a helpful response from a human that actually answered the question...even though in India presumably.On-line account system appears real time and always working.
I,m sure isn't perfect...but on value for money and customer experience, so far for me it wins hands down.Sarah x0 -

Hi Caz2,
I'm not sure it'd help if I went through the dialogue that my other half, 3, and Citizen's Advice etc entered into again. I know he ended up ringing 3 on a daily basis, which is probably why he was compensated twice? It was just 10 months of virtually non-stop hassle for him, which, if I recall it rightly, only made any progress when he contacted Otelo.
I don't know what happens when you've fulfilled your contract and are still having problems, but maybe it might be better if it's posted as a seperate topic? It's likely to get lost on this thread.
Sorry I can't help any further.0 -

Hi Kitty, I agree with your views entirely. I have just left 3 after a year of iffy service? The handset I used was an NEC 616 which didn't switch between 2g and 3g properly in the 3g areas where the signal was poor, it tried to hang onto the 3g signal and then dropped the call. In Glasgow city centre 3 is excellent, out in the countryside where there's no 3g and only 2g again the signal is excellent courtesy of o2. I would recommend that anyone connecting to 3 should go for a top of the range Nokia phone where you can control the 2g/3g connection manually rather than rely on the phone doing it for you. I am back with Orange on the deal posted last week, D500 @ £4.99 per month for 200 minutes, although the past week has been pro rata minute allocation I have well exceeded my allocation of minutes as I'm still using the phone as freely as I did on the 3 network with my 500 minutes per month. As soon as e2save or OSPS advertise a great deal on one of the Nokia handsets on 3 I will join 3 again knowing how to retain a good mobile connection in the "fringe" areas of the service, I would say that this is the only area that anyone considering 3 has to be concerned about and if they intend using the phone in that area to avoid taking one of the older handsets and go for a Nokia.0 -
hi gang , my 4th month 3 bill arrived this morning , i had to check if the first 3 months at £15 has finished and indeed its now £30 . ( i took out a nokia 7600 with cpw at 2.99/month)
anyway, i noticed that at least 2 of the txt i did in Belgium did NOT get charged? the month before my vodafone didn't charge my roaming when i received calls a few time AND made three or more local call in Belgium? I AM KEEPING QUIET of cos but just wondered if anyone else had the same happened?!:money:

roaming calls sometimes take longer to appear; they'll probably be on next month's bill0
