May be worth contacting motorola as it seems to be a problem with their phone?0

Thanks for the suggestions but looks like i'm gonna have to send it back and hope for the best.
I rang Motorola and they asked me who my service provider was, as soon as I said '3' he said '3' deal with there own repairs/warranty. He wouldnt tell me if there is a problem with the C975 turning itself off....0 -
Hello,
I am new here. Having read a lot of pages of this thread, I wondered if service quality had changed since the thread was initially posted in 2004.
Therefore, it would be nice if you all could just summarise the current situation with the three network stability etc. to benefit myself and other like minded types who actually use their brain like the rest of us here.
It makes sense to summarise latest experiences with 3, as only the last 13 pages or so were 2005 i believe, as well as losing focus slightly in my opinion.
Currently I have a motorola v975. Have not used it much as I dont really want to damage it in case I send back within the next 5 days.
PHONE MOTOROLA V975

First to switch was the wife, I thought dependent on the outcome of the first few months of her contract I too would sign up for three. All went well for a month or two, infact I manage to convince some of my friends about the extra cheap line rental etc. There ending being quite a handfull that changed but let me get this straight we ALL had problems with calls droping. For some it started straight away, for myself it started 6 months into the contract. General problems included.
40 min waits for cutomer service only to end up with a person that couldn't understand you unless you used pictograph representation and sign language (very difficult if you couldn't get your video calling signal).
One friend ended up with 4 seperate phone numbers, one for outgoing calls, one for incoming calls, one for text messaging and one for video calling all because he wanted to transport his old number.
Another friend had three LG phones in 2 weeks (I know this is the phone and not the network, but there only available on three so what does that tell you hey)
All of us had droping calls, when switching form 3g to 2g network.
I had to stand in the praying mantis position just to make a call (after about six months of good service), good forbid I took a deep breath, that just knocked me of the network. (by the way three have just erected I new arial in my town of loughborough and signal has actually got worse)
Several of us reported phones switching off, htis include nokia, Motorola and LG. My 3g being the latest.
If you want to browse the net/wap forget about it, you need 3g signal and then you are limited to 3's own pages, they lock you from the outside world. I wanted to download my ntl emails from the pop server onto my phone but after 50 min on the phone I was told there shouldn't be a problem. Then 10 min on a few forums I discovered that they stop you from accessing anything outside of 3's domain.
Most of my friends including my self our about at the end of our sentance with 3 and have decided not to contemplate even thinking about using 3 ever again.
Here's a tip for existing customers, try to get out of your contract as best you can, remember they are not providing the service you are paying for, some manage to get out myself have had no luck. I don't intend trying the postal approach as many of my friends have struggled to get any kind of signs of life from the 3 house of disconnection.
I did however manage to downgrade my contract to the cheapest poss and then stuck it in a draw on permanent divert to my payg virgin.
I have 2 months to go then i'm disconnecting, the best way........ cancel that all mighty direct debit then they'll come looking for you. As soon as you have them at your disposal give them the full force of your fury.
I'm not even going to try and mark these cowboys out of 10 because they are the worst excuse for a mobile network I have ever seen or had the displeasure to use, they are a plague stay well clear!.
Hope this helps

It's sad to see so many people having problems, I think it seems that when you do have problems they are BAD. Alot of people do get on really well with 3.
Personally I just use my nokia 7600 for phone calls and over the last 4 or 5 months it has improved a great deal. Before then I got very frustrated with awful call quality all the time where I couldn't hear the other person hardly at all! It all seems down to area, in my house (nearish bmouth) its always spot on but at work it used to be mixed, now its good at work too.
I probably wouldn't recommend 3 as a main phone, especially if you have a business - the amount of problems this can cause0 -
I must admit that first 6 months no probs at all, my friends all had probs from day 1 though, funny really...... after 6 months though they just snowballed me with problems.
Advice to people thinking of going on a 3g network...... Don't, most 3g networks are not up to scratch, give them a year or 2 to stabalise the 3g networks. Is video calling all that important because thats all you'll miss.
2g is tried and tested..........3g was rushed into action due to the telecoms market losing money that they so lovingly departed with for the 3g rights. Granted vodafone and orange hung around a bit longer to iron out the creases but until they have been running for any length of time who knows what trouble they will get.
Why not let someone else be the guinni pig, my calls are to important to me especially now the wifes pregnant again.
