Thanks PF. I'll tell him. I only know what he told me! Was a bit surprised.

for me 3 was a nightmare, joining in June 03 with the 2 x E606.... nothing but trouble
March 2004 as I couldnt get a handset that worked I opted for 2 new contracts with the E616 (ensured these handsets were reliable!)......... more trouble
March 05 - after continued problems over 6 months dealing with 3's Executive office
I eventually got 50% discount on my 2 E616 contract unpaid bills for 6 months (well I had to take some kind of stance) & 2 new threepay Motorola A1000 to replace the E616's (which funnily enough 3 did not want back...lol, wonders why!!)
I ended up cancelling one of the contracts as a matter of principle and going for a sim only o2 deal with 800mins 2000 texts
£45 a month beating 3 hands down throwing sim in an old phone
selling 1 of the motorola's for £400
buying a LG8120 for £75 from index, £10 to unlock it!
now I have a 3G phone on a 2G/3G network costing less than 3
just goes to show..... 3 is the cheapest, but is it best ???If I helped or saved you money - Thank me
If I helped you spend some money - spank me
If I done both - :lipsrseal me:eek:0 -
Ive just been charged 85p per txt after my free txt allowance for May-June period.

I have been looking at 3 for about a month now (currently with Orange and totally hacked off due to miss-information when I upgraded my phone!) Ihave been a loyal user with orange since 1999. I am told that the 3 network falls back to O2 is this true? anybody help?
Cheers0 -
I changed from Vodafone (due to constantly rising contract charges) to 3 in January. 99% of the time i have no problems at all but that 1% usually happens when it is a really important call and is very annoying. AS soon as I hit the boundaries of Norwich it says I am raoming, the main problem for this is Norwich has one mast at County Hall so me living opposite side of city can cause dropped calls. I have a LG8138 which when i bought it was told it had better switching from 3G to 2G capabilities. If this is the case I would love to see just how bad older models of phones were.
Also does anyone know where I can get it unlocked??Debs Loves Freebies0 -

85p a text! All my bills show .085p per text which with VAT equates to the standard 10p charge.

Yes it's true, it's also the cause of the many problems as 3 sets the phones up to use 3g no matter how weak the signal is as they have to pay O2 to use their 3G network, but if you get your 3 mobile unlocked you can set it to use the 2g (shame no video calls)vBulletin getting better!0 -
I've not read every post in this topic but I believe that the 3 network has come a long way over the last year. Stories of signal loss are due to lack of coverage from a year or two ago and possibly also due to poor quality handsets such as the early NEC and LG phones (new LG 8130 and 8138 is much better).
I've had two contracts on the 3 network and most of my friends and family are on 3 also. We have no problems whatsoever. If I do venture out of a 3G area then it simply uses the O2 network to get a signal.
Customer service is excellent. I've spoken to them several times to change tariffs, port numbers - both off 3 and onto 3. On every occassion they have dealt with my query quickly and efficiently, no waiting on the line or being transferred to another dept.
Voicemail is easy and very fast to navigate - unlike some other networks where you need to find your way through a maze of audio messages and frustrating menus.
I ought to make it clear that I'm not biased. I've also recently had contracts with Orange, Vodafone and T-Mobile. I'm an impartial advisor and sell hundreds of phones every month on all networks. I've had absolutely no complaints about 3 and personally, it's my chosen network.
Oh, did I also mention that their deals usually work out at about half the price of other networks for twice as many minutes? :T
The only bad thing about 3 is the relatively small choice of handsets. The Nokia 6680 is excellent though.0 -
Hmm...i've been on 3, and at first, the network coverage was great, but its just slowly declined and its become rather annoying. I'm probably going to move away from three, simply because i can't use a 3 sim in a normal mobile phone (GSM) it has to be a 3G phone (UMTS) and the choice of handsets for GSM is way better. Cheap it may be, but i dont' know, i'm not fond of it anymore. Unless they give me free 12 months line rental.0
