Barclaycard Pre Application Check

Well just an update to my application through pre app process. It turns out because I am an existing customer I'm not eligible for the simplicity card. I called Barclay to ask how the app was getting on and they said it has been cancelled and advised me to apply for the Goldfish instead so I'll see how that goes.
Better keep an eye on the credit check from Barclay as they said they hadn't actually done one because I wasn't eligible and that it shouldn't have shown up as a card available to me.0 -
Yea I thought only the breathe and symplicity where open to exisiting customers.0

Same happened to me when I applied for the Goldfish card. I'm sure they credit checked me though, I'll have to query that.
I don't really want to cancel and close my account, wait however many months then apply for the Goldfish or Simplicity to only then be declined .
@bingy_burge - It's the Breathe and Onepulse that existing customers are eligible for.0 -

No that is incorrect as existing customers can only apply for the Barclaycard Breathe and One Pulse credit cards.0 -
Well apparently the customer services person told me Barclaycard can't offer their customers two visa products as a rule but can offer their customers a Visa product and a Mastercard product (goldfish is mastercard) So he told me to apply for that and it should go through.
He sounded surprised that they pre check even displayed the Simplicity.0 -
I find it very confusing, as saying you're an existing customer doesn't change the results!
I've got an Initial Visa with them - limit of £1500.
I got told 60-70% chance of acceptance for Platinum, so applied away. Letter arrived to say as I already hold that product (Visa I guess) that they cannot process the application. I rang them, and they advised that I could apply for the Breathe card, which I did. I spoke to them today and it's been accepted, albeit with a £500 limit. I then found out that I could have applied for a Goldfish card which would have suited me much better, but now I've got the Breathe I'd have to close it down and re-apply! Grrr!!!
Good news is that whilst on the phone I moaned about the Initial Visa being crap and they dropped the interest rate to 19.9% and increased the credit limit to £2500. It still says "my first Visa card" though... I know it makes me a nob, but I've emailed them to ask if they can change the type of card...0 -
Hmmmm, I don't get it. I got the exact same letter about 'already having the product' when I applied for the Goldfish card and I have the Initial Visa also.0

I thought existing customers could apply for Breathe or Simplicity only?
Back along when I held a Barclaycard Initial I threatened to close it and they dropped the APR to 19.9%, too.
I did the same again a year later, saying I wanted to apply for the flexi-rate, so they dropped the APR again - to 9.9%!!
I never had such a basic looking card with such a low APR... My Halifax ONE looked more the part all black and slivery but that carried a higher APR than my Brclays Classic... go figure.
Ah well; firmly in the sub prime for many years yet; not that I need credit any more. I'm an ISA-rate chaser nowCashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

I gave it a try just for the hell of it, ticked existing customer as thought that included current accounts, whoops. Anyway got 30-40% chance of being accepted for Initial :rotfl: Though gots lots of new credit/current account in last 6 mths so this may be why. They'd probably decline me if I did a full app. as Equifax is not my friend :rotfl:
Anyway, no more proper credit searches for me for at least 6mths, though going to try and go a full year. That way, if I haven't got the late payment marker removed by then, it would be 18mths old so hopefully won't affect me and I can move back into the mainstream then....Virgin tops on my list :rotfl:0
