shows how shot to pieces my credit file is.
my check was done with experian with which I have 3 defaults, one with natwest, one with santander and one with black horse for £96.
    total defaults about 700 :S
obviously it rejected me, told me i have a good chance for aqua, so i applied and got rejected by aqua, i also got rejected by vanquis not long ago..... defaults suck :)
my past history has been rubbish but have missed no payments on anything for over a year now.

any credit seems to be beyond me now

So many people have been in your position where credit is hard to come by but hard work paying your bills on time no missed/late payments will soon booster your credit rating.

That and pay off your defaults. #700 is !!!! all really. I don't see why they fell into default if the balances were so low in the first place TBH, I've served larger debts whilst on JSA...

Me neither, the Santander and Natwest were current accounts that I had overdrafts with that I let default for about 250 each. Now Im stuck without a decent current account and I can't even get a sub-prime credit card to show that my ability to manage finances has vastly improved :(

Have you ever thought about challenging the defaults by asking the banks in question for proof the default notices was ever sent to you :D

Been challenging the natwest one, have asked for a signed by myself CCA and they are sending it to my local branch for me to see it but ive got to take my driving licence in for proof. with regards to the santander one i havent even bothered yet to be honest, wouldnt know where to start as I dont have the account numbers or anything.

EDIT: I never asked Natwest for proof the default was sent to me though..... should I? to be honest I never remember seeing it. Same with Santander.

Thing is though overdrafts aren't regulated by the consumer credit act 1974 so the provision for requesting proof of a CCA does not apply.

And even if it did, lack of a CCA would only prevent the bank in question from enforcing the debt in a court of law, it would not prevent them for recording defaults on the customers credit file - so in this instance, from either angle, it's a dead end I'm afraid.

If I were in your position united66 I'd just pay them off. At least then you'd stand a much better chance of approval for a Vanquis card and Capital One Classic in six months time so you can start to rebuild :o

    Good for you.

I'm sure I tried this a month ago (didn't think it affected your credit rating) and I got 60-70 and not accepted for one of them

not sure what changed in a month

When I go on it it says it can't offer me anything even the Initial. Try again in 6 months, I think Barclaycard may be one of those who doesn't consider you if you apply within that time

I done the barclaycard pre-application an hour ago and said I earned £1k a year lol,and it came up with their platinum card,so anyone else out there with a decent credit rating just try this.
