Barclaycard Pre Application Check

never-in-doubt wrote: »As Stephane stated in the post above - Barclaycard exclusively check Equifax - they have a deal with them. You'll find they will search one agency (preferred first; i.e. Equifax) and if something doesn't add up they will move to the other agency (Experian) finally ending with CallCredit.
Hope this explains it in more detail for you......
Thanks for the explanation, it is helpful to know how these things work.
What I was really just pointing out that it is potentially misleading to say that they only check Equifax, as they searched my Experian file. No problem that it may be done as well as, just as you described, but it is not exclusively.
Just to help me a bit further though, I have no CIFAS on Call Credit or Experian (and no reason to expect that there might be), are you saying that there might have been a problem of this type with my Equifax file to prompt the Experian search?
Thanks,

Hiya
They do exclusively use Equifax, exclusively meaning they are 1st choice and they will always use them first (they have SLA's in place with the CRA).....That said, there is nothing stopping them 'digging' a little deeper if they feel the data from Equifax does not match their internal search.
So the reason they checked Experian in your case could be several reasons; maybe you had a previous address; maybe your credit commitments don't match with what you said on the application etc etc
To explain these examples; assume you only lived at current address 2yrs 8mths, you'll have to provide a previous address. Say your equifax file doesn't show the previous address that you told barclays about - they'd have to check it with another CRA. Similarly, say you asked to BT to your MBNA card and on Equifax there was no MBNA account - they'd check Experian to see if the account showed up there (it could be a mates card you see).....
Is this starting to make sense now? It doesn't have to be because of anything 'dodgy', simply additional checks can resort in mutiple CRA checking.
They will always (all lenders) search more than one CRA if you have a linked address though - they have to in order to locate the source of the link and so will search all 3 CRA's until they find it - have you got a linked address?2010 - year of the troll

Thank you very much indeed. This is a real picture of how it works. The try pretending to do things to protect you, when what they really do is s*r*w you up badly...
SAR sent to CIFAS, let's see what comes up... I'd be funny if after Capital One removed their marker, other lenders who saw it placed new markers.0 -
I did the pre-check and it said I had a 60-70% chance of being accepted so I thought what the heck and applied but got the 'we need more information' result so I guess I'll have to wait and see but going from past experience I very much doubt I'll be accepted. I have NO credit and that's the problem. I've never been accepted for anything I've applied for in the past and my estimated credit score on Checkmyfile was a measly 486! So I'm not getting my hopes up...0

If you want to get a higher score (and you will), and yet still waste money, then go direct to the CRAs.
The day CRAs start issuing cards will be the day I consider paying them for a number.0 -
My first post so hello to everyone. I have read this thread now from head to toe with interest in the new "Pre app process" I have been on a mission to improve my credit score for two years now and have managed to get it up by almost 300 points.
I have an initial card with Barclay already and have got the APR down to 19.9% but wanted something better. I did the pre app and qualified for the goldfish and simplicity (80-90%) as well as the initial (90%+). I have applied for the simplicity and got the we need more info. For those who are interested, I shall report back in a couple of days with an update.0 -

I think barclays card stopped as two many go bankrupt after leaving uni and can't be bothered to pay off their debts.
Can you blame them.0 -
Hmm. I've got a Barclaycard and ran through this thing, including ticking the existing customer box. It said I could get at least three cards with a 90% +
Does Barclaycard give multiple cards, anyone know? I thought they didn't. Could be handy for 0% balance transfer.
If you tick the existing customer button they offer the breathe card and symplicity card to current card holders.
Otherwise if you want any of the other cards you need to cancel your current product and reapply for the card you want such as gold card.
I dont have the best file but applied earlier this year b4 i got my cap one and I got instant accepatance on the intial card.0 -
