Barclaycard do not check Experian bur Equifax only as they have a partnership with them. They probably would have checked Call credit in the first instance

Barclaycard have checked my Experian file as well as the initial CallCredit pre-check

  • I had applied to Barclaycard simplicity yesterday with that pre-check thing saying 70-80%. Decision came as they need more info.

Called Barclaycard this morning and the lady asked me to go to local branch with two ids.

Did anyone experience this? Pls let me know. Thanks.

I just had a pre-check application...the result....i am not eligible for one!!...Not even the barclaycard initial!! My credit history are pretty spotless on both Equifax and Callcredit files records. I suspect it may got to do with the electrol roll as ive moved over the summer. It has been fun while it lasts applying for the submit button and waiting for the outcome!!

As Stephane stated in the post above - Barclaycard exclusively check Equifax - they have a deal with them. You'll find they will search one agency (preferred first; i.e. Equifax) and if something doesn't add up they will move to the other agency (Experian) finally ending with CallCredit.

So if you say you had a cifas on experian, they would have searched you using Equifax and as part of the search a cifas log would be done. This would come back negative from Equifax but positive from the cifas database so Barclaycard would therefore have to search Experian to see the entry. If it didn't show there but was on CallCredit then they'd also search CallCredit.

You miss the point that cifas is a separate program that links to the CRA search (as does N Hunter) and so although a cifas may not show on your credit file, the lender can (if they subscribe) search the cifas database direct. They will then match it to the credit record or contact the cifas member that added the entry and ask them to update the cra's. The lenders speak to each other (usually by the application lender going to the lender that added the cifas to ask why it was added). If they decide you have done the same with them they will just add another!

Can be a nightmare if you get a cifas and apply for credit cos all lenders have a right to add one as well, going on the original lenders decision to add one.

Hope this explains it in more detail for you...... :D

Mate, this is interesting as I never expected it to work like this... I applied for the Barclaycard initial, they said they needed more infor and finally received a letter saying I was declined.

By the time I did it, I had a CIFAS in my Experian and Callcredit file, but not on Equifax. That is why I applied, because my Equifax file is clean.

Now you say that even though the CIFAS is not in my Equifax file, they will know it as they check directly with CIFAS... and that explains very reasonably what may have happened...

I believe my CIFAS has been removed by now. Anyway I will SAR CIFAS tomorow and see what comes out of it.

I thought about appealing to Barclaycard, sending bank statements, NI insurance, self assessment statements, etc. But if it was the CIFAS the reason for the decline, do you believe I've still got any chances in an appeal. If so, what should I send them so that they disregard the CIFAS?

Hope that explains how they caught you with the cifas mate! Its a nightmare and very clever..... But suffice to say, if you have a cifas then the lender will find it - they have a duty to. If they can't they will go direct to cifas.

Bear in mind, their systems (the lenders) will show that there is a cifas marker and the code, it will not show them anything else (the screen may say cifas 4 or similar) so the lender will usually search each CRA until they find it. If they can't find it they will then search cifas database.

So in your case explains how they got you! Check your Experian credit file and notice a Barclaycard search.... ;)

Regards to appealing, SAR cifas and then appeal - you get plenty of time. Bear in mind the cifas remains for 13 months and can be adjusted by the lender if they feel you;re still doing whatever made them cifas you in the first place!

Hmm. I've got a Barclaycard and ran through this thing, including ticking the existing customer box. It said I could get at least three cards with a 90% +

Does Barclaycard give multiple cards, anyone know? I thought they didn't. Could be handy for 0% balance transfer. :)
