Good morning.
Thankyou.
Thanyou for thanking me in the first place etc.
There has been a lot of thanks swapping in my view.
A lot of the thanks was for excellent advice to people
in trouble who benefitted from the advice. It is possibly
of more benefit to others if you acted upon advice and said
what worked out or not. Often my thanks would have meant
that I agree with the advice given. Can we have an I concur
button ?
I thank all MSE forum members. I have learned so much.
J_B.
You have to be extra special to get thanks when the thanks
system is offline.
Edit I realise now that the web geniuses at MSE are perfecting the code behind the thanks button as I type. All totals are test data at the time of writing,0 -

hitting the Thanks Button was like touching someone - not just to say "thanks" but also to say "I read that - you didn't waste your time writting it".
Thats a nice way of putting it, THANK YOU:happyhear :wave:0 -
Because again, for some stupid reason, links in signatures aren't allowed either. What's the point of having the damn things if you get shouted at for using them?
Meh, bah humbug and all that jazz
from memory, links were removed cause people kept using them inappropriately!!!! ie linking advertising threads to them. The longer the posts are the more of a nightmare long threads are on dial-up, the longer the signature - the longer the thread becomes! Carefully, they can always remove them.....keep smiling, it's a great site!!!

Hi, just read the earlier posts about judging or not judging someone by their post/'thanks' counts. Feel that it surely can't be right to judge someone like this ... if someone's very busy, or doesn't know the relevant answers, or has ill health/isn't able to type easily, or prefers not to post a lot ... definitely doesn't mean they're not genuine or positive!
Personally, I even got to looking for threads to try to post on, as I was concerned about being judged negatively due to low 'thanks' count, despite trying hard to contribute something when possible. It's frustrating to look through threads and realise there's very little you can add or that someone's already said it! But I don't want to just post stuff that might not be helpful enough and might just clog up threads, just to try to raise the 'thanks' total and try to not be excluded in some way. Often even when posting something genuinely helpful, the 'thanks' button isn't used. Not that I look for it.
I've not known another forum use a 'thanks' button, and personally would prefer it didn't exist in the same form as it has previously here, although I can understand it saves lots of 'thanks' messages being posted. I'd prefer for 'thanks' totals to be more private, so the 'thanks' total exists for those who do like them, but judgementalism can be prevented. Then everyone can get on with exchanging information and sorting debts etc, rather than worrying about a little button!
Saying that, I can understand that those with high post counts are often viewed as more experienced etc, but many of those posts might be not specifically to do with giving information etc, so I suppose from each side post counts and 'thanks' can't really be used to judge. Maybe people remember more someone's name and that they've posted something helpful before. Don't know, but I find I notice that more than posts/'thanks' totals.

Ah, well i'm glad I'm not the only one who got told off about the size of my sig. I didn't mind changing it but did feel a bit agrieved cos there do seem to be other people with much bigger ones.
Just forces us to be brief, not a bad thing for waffly me!!! :rotfl:Don't stress, relax, let life roll off your backs. Except for death and paying taxes, everything in life is only for now...
