Thanks Button Gone [Merged]

Happy days! :rotfl:
I wonder if those who asked to be thanked will still do so now that there's no button to click.
The site might just be more well mannered without it.
(Although in my more trivial moments, I did occasionally think it might be nice to have a thanks count of exactly twice the post count.No....I don't have OCD......it was just an idle thought. :rotfl: )

No, its a board upgrade teething problem.
....But you should have read the notices thread and realised this yourself.....
....so maybe no-one likes you now......
...not really0 -
I'm not bothered about people thanking me or not for my posts, but I do appreciate being able to thank other who have helped me out. Its good manners and shows that I appreciate people taking their time and using their knowledge to help me!
Hope it comes back soon!

I hope the Thanks button and individual thanks counts will be coming back
because.
1) e.g If person A has been a member for 1 year made 500 posts and got 150 thanks.
Generally I will give more "weight" to their views / posts than person B a member for 1 year 500 posts and zero thanks.
2) I might be more inclined to "help" someone who has been thanked a lot ie I can tell who has given a lot of useful posts to the board and in return I can return the favour and continue the cycle of positive posting.
ie it enables you to reward positive posters
3)The thanks button gives me a chance to thank people and show them I have read / appreciated their posts.
4)The thanks button helped me to know which of my posts were appreciated and read by who.
MSE team are you going to reinstate the thanks button and counts ?????
I have found it a very useful feature.0 -
I certainly wouldn't give more weight to someone because they have a higher thanks counter - as I've already said before, it is used for things such as 'that was funny' as well as lots of other reasons so maybe 'person A' is just funnier than 'person B' IYSWIM
I am no more inclined to help one person than another because of their 'thanks' counter, I'm just happy (and surprised) if I can help anyoneI'm a little angelBUT A WHOLE LOTTA DEVIL

Apparently someone hacked into the database and stole them all and you can find them being sold on ebay.

MSE has opened a thread for all the depressed folks who had spent countless hours building up their thanyou counts, as some recognition of achievement, unfortunateltly that has all now been wiped out ! So like the asylum seekers from civil wars they have to start from nothing !

I'd like to add my thoughts on the thanks button - I really like it and hope that it comes back. Equally I hope that the tally comes back because I really think it helps to judge a forum member's experience and 'integrity' I suppose - along with their post count. Ok, so it doesn't say how many 'useful' messages they've posted but other things that might get thanked are funny posts or interesting contributions to a discussion - these things are part of being a valued forum member too.
Just because some people abuse it (not entirely sure how?!) or judge themselves by their thanks tally - doesn't mean the rest of us shouldn't get to use it. Its a bit childish to take it really seriously but its not hurting anyone. And the indignant posters against it on the grounds of 'overuse' are perhaps taking things a bit too seriously too
And why shouldn't i thank someone for saying something funny or contributing an interesting point?! I think the 'useful' definition could be expanded a bit.

Does that mean that being the first to spot a bargain is more useful or more helpful than helping one person with a specific issue? I don't think so.I'm a little angelBUT A WHOLE LOTTA DEVIL
