Thanks Button Gone [Merged]

Seeing as the thread about the thanks button in DT got locked after my last post (don't THINK it had anything to do with MY post in particular
) and people are commenting on it here, thought I'd add my views here as well.
The thanks button was originally introduced to stop people making one word 'thanks' posts that made threads longer and bumped them to the top for no reason in particular, and to (try) and stop some people using it to 'bump up' their posts counts.
The thanks button is 'supposed' to be for if you found the comment useful, but is used now for any post contributing to someones thread, if you agree with someone, if you found something funny and sometimes for reasons I can't work out
I like being able to say thanks to people without having to just post the one word, but think that the thanks (too many 'th' words in one line - glad I'm not saying this, it'll be like a tongue twister) counter under peoples names should be gone and people just get some kind of message in the same way as a pm to tell them they have been thanked, who by and where. Maybe the person saying thanks could be given option boxes to check to say why they're saying thanks as well, or be able to add a personal note.
Getting a message like this would save me thinking 'what have I been thanked for now' when my counter goes up as well :rolleyes:I'm a little angelBUT A WHOLE LOTTA DEVIL

I like the thanks button! You can show your appreciation of a person's post easily without replying with one word 'thanks' posts. I think the 'thanks count' was the problem. Could we not have the facility to simply thank a person without accumulating a thanks count?Obsolete0

Since the site was shut down yesterday I have noticed there are no thanks buttons to push, anyone know why?0

I liked the "Thanks" button; it was an easy way to show appreciation without taking up space on the thread; the only problem with it that I could see was that using the button didn't keep the thread current in the way that a post would, so good offers and freebies could get shunted even though they were appreciated.0

Can someone tell me what the point of them is?0

I'm gutted they seem to have disappeared. I was building up quite a collection.
The idea of them Timmy is that if someone has been particularly helpful then it's a good way to press 'Thanks' and to acknowledge them. It also saves having to write it and having a whole lot of replies with just 'Thanks' on them.
BRING THEM BACK!

I had wondered if it was some kind of point system and you get a free Big Mac or something at the end of it as people seemed to be asking to be thanked. If I help someone I don't expect a thank you unless I've really gone out of my way or maybe if someone is replying to my post anyway. I've noticed they've introduced them over on avforums as well but I really don't see the point!0

Relatively new poster, so don't know if this is a common thing, BUT... all my "thanks" have disappeared! i've been thanked a few times, but they've all gone! Does no one like me any more?0

The whole thing has become a bit of a Thankenstein's Monster! :rotfl:

Oh dear! If you read the actual thread from start to finish you would not need to ask!
