Its not hard, we find a box by the bed for all such apparatus works, plus maybe a couple in the wallet for unexpected opportunities ;). Never had a mishap yet (fingers crossed!)

Hey, I like the sound of unexpected opportunities!:T

  • I personally would recommend the copper coil, i had mine fitted 3 months ago, and have had no problems whatsoever, and because it is hormone free there are no nasty side effects, like the horrific mood swings i got on the pill! Also it can stay in for 10 years so a good long term solution but if you were to change your mind you could get straight back to TTC without waiting for things to go back to normal, the only down side though is it can make periods a bit heavier so if you suffer from problems in that department it might not be right for you, good luck finding a method that is right for you and your oh though, nothing worse than worrying that the pitter patter of tiny feet might accidently appear:D

Think VERY carefully before you go on the Depo - I've been on it twice (second time because I was at a new surgery who didn't believe me...) and both times I put on over 2 stone... nearly everyone I have spoken to who've been on it have had some sort of weight gain on it or other side effect...
Personally I'd try to convince the hubby to have the snip - more to the point - it's often reversible :) (my dad had his snip reversed and has a bouncing son to prove it :)

I would second the mirena coil, relatively pain free to be inserted and lasts for 5 years, if you did want a baby again they can just whip it out and you can ttc almost straight away.

As you say that you are certain that you never want any more children - go for permenant method i.e. vasectomy. Quick and easy, and when given the all clear no more worry, and no more remembering pill/injection/feeling for threads on coil etc...
  • I think it's a bit daft to say don't listen to the 'horror stories' about Mirena. I (very reluctantly) had one fitted almost exactly 12 months ago for medical reasons (not contraception). I've had two children and I passed out with the pain of having it fitted. It caused me to have migraines for weeks (when normally I only get them two or three times a year), my skin was so oily I had to constantly wipe my face and I developed acne. I had incredibly bad mood swings and felt often confused and 'head shot' for the entire time I had it (like you feel after you have a baby - swiss cheese brain, forgetful, slow thinking etc). I was completely not interested in sex at all and quite sensitive down below for a long time.

I was thinking about having it taken out but one evening I was driving home and started having severe cramps which took my breath away. I got home and sat on the toilet and could feel it coming out, I had a 'look' and it was working its way out of my cervix and I actually pulled it the rest of the way out to stop it hurting anymore. Then I went into a sort of shock and had to go to A&E where I was diagnosed with an infection in the lining of my womb which was put down to the coil. I think I had it in for 12 weeks or there abouts and I wouldn't entertain the idea of one ever again.

Obviously they suit some people down to the ground but not everyone.

Actually the best thing for the OP to do is to talk to a GP with an interest in family planning. If the surgery doesn't have one, then get to a Family Planning Clinic. They are the real experts in what's available, what's suitable and what's involved.

    Hi!

Not patroising at all. We are definately minds made up for various reasons. Yep I know I sound "weird", "strange" and "selfish" (i've been called them all ) but that's life!

    Hi

Totally ignore the namecalling - how dare they?

Its possible to have sterilisation operations from Marie Stopes Clinics - either for men or women. They are reasonably-priced - affordable even on a low salary (I've just checked - female sterilisation is £1,300 under local anaesthetic - I cant see on the site how much extra they'd charge for making it general anaesthetic - I'd hazard a guess at an extra £100-£200). No hassle. I know this from experience - as I had a sterilisation operation (female variety) many years ago at a Marie Stopes Clinic in London. In/out the same day and I could have it done under either local or general anaesthetic (it cost me £10 extra at that time to have the general anaesthetic - my choice - coward as I am!). I just needed to have someone with me to keep an eye on me afterwards and the chequebook to pay for it. I didnt even have to involve my doctor - I just booked it directly and they got on with it - no questions asked/nothing. I just had a short initial talk with them - where they explained the method used and I had a chance to ask any questions. My doctor only came into the picture when I went to his surgery to get the stitches removed afterwards (but you could ask for them to be dissolvable stitches and avoid that even).

Done/dusted within a month of my noticing the chance for this was there.

Feel free to P.M. me if you have any questions about this.

Just google "Marie Stopes" to see where they have clinics nowadays.
