Well, I decided this cannot go on for me as it's really affecting my life at the moment.

So, I spoke to my counsellor about it!

I now know it is the fact they pop out from nowhere that scares me most - they are like a silent enemy for me.

I also know that me being too afraid to even look at them means I am allowing my imagination to run riot. Because I am ok(ish) with insects, and I can look at them.

Sooo, this afternoon, I made myself look at a picture of one on the internet!!! Only I couldn't look because my eyes refused to open! :rotfl:

But then I glanced at the TV (dd had left it on a kids channel) and they were talking about British Wildlife, and this bit was about a predator spider!

I very nearly switched it off in a panic, but thought, no, I'm going to watch it - and I did!! :j Lots of deep breathing required but I sat it out!

It's a small start, I know, and I'd still be petrified if I saw one now, but I have to say, I am slightly less jumpy tonight! I seem to have reduced my spider radar a bit somehow.

I'm thinking more 'I'd hate to see one' than 'is there one here, here or here' iykwim?

I do hope this is a sign of things to come! :D

I'm a bit worried I am tempting fate now...
  • I totally agree iwth racyred on this one.

I have a theory and I am sorry that this may u[set some people.

I believe that in killing a spider you will be beseiged by more!

As much as i am frightened of the big ones...although i am no where near arachnophobic I would NEVER kill one. I hae had the big ones that leap at you...the ones who taunt you by almost cornering you....the ones that sit right on the wall so you go past tiptoing so as not to disturb them...BUT I would never kill one.

    Hi all

Im not overly comfortable with spiders and have read some of this thread but not all but I have a complete and irrational fear of SLUGS!! Just the thought of them is enough to make the hairs on my arms raise!! Its been since I was a toddler and I am now in my 30's. I cant even walk down a garden path where they are. Cant stand them and never will be able to. I know they dont run at you like spiders but I have cried at the sight of them. I have even found them in the house (old house) coming through the airbricks I think. Seem to like the cat bowl near the back door :eek::eek:

Does anyone have any suggestions? PS There is no way I can use the beer in the glass because I wouldnt be able to move it after

I've not read whole thread, but if they really are freaking you out that much, you could spray all the edges of the rooms, and around the windows with flea spray,as that kills all creep crawlies.

You fear them, but you don't have anything like a phobia.

Problem is, when terror kicks in, all rational thought disappears!

I've read some posts where they have ended up inside clothes and I can say for certain, if that happened to me, my clothes would be off! Be it outside, busy place, wherever - they'd be off!!

Now, I would not normally dream of doing any such thing of course :D, but if I was trying to get away from a spider, mere things like that would cease to exist in my mind.

It's a physical as much as a psychological reaction, and my legs would not allow mwe to tiptoe past a spider! And, even if I did, I would not be able to then go out, as I'd be drenched with sweat and more then likely shaking/crying too. Plus I get so tense, or do such daft things to get away from them, my muscles hurt like crazy after.

I can't describe it - I don't think anyone without an irrational fear of their own could understand what it does to you.

I do see your point though, and I am sure many on here would love to be able to post the things you have, but you are missing the point when you say you are frightened too, but cannot kill them.

I don't know how to get rid of them, but I do know they come and eat my cats biscuits, so it may be an idea to move the cat bowl if you can?

I don't mind slugs but I can see your predicament as they are not the easiest of things to move/dispose!

Someone on here will hopefully have a plan!

I know putting salt on them makes them dissovle, because they are mostly water. I can't do it myself as I think it's cruel, but they pretty much go to a little puddle... _pale_

Does anyone have one of these things? Do they really work? I might look into getting one if they do. As long as it doesn't make the electric bill go through the roof!
