BIG spiders!! No piccies!

PrincessPlaty, I had a look at the spidatrap site, no good for me as I have the cat. Thought it would be a completely spider free piccie zone. It's not. Don't link the "spidatrap" link on the left hand side followed by "our tests". They show it being tested out with MASSIVE ones!
My oh mentioned today that he saw one of those HUGE brown ones, the ones that are about 5 inches wide from leg to leg with the massive bodies - I've only ever encountered one of these once before. I was on my own and had to call my ex (although he wasn't an ex at the time) back from the pub to get rid of it. Only he didn't come round, his mate did!! Ex decided he'd rather be at the pub!! I told oh it's a good job I wasn't staying there last night, his family would have thought he was trying to murder me! :rotfl:
All this talk of spiders, the weather getting warmer, people seeing bigger ones than normal lately. Sooner or later I have a horrible feeling I'm going to encounter one. No matter where you are in the country; or the world even - if you suddenly hear a earth shattering splitting scream so high you think your eardrums might start bleeding any second - you know who it is, and why I'm doing itDo good deeds and you could raise the curtain, do good deeds and you could really raise your life....0 -

Did you not see the colour codes of which were safe to click on :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
My friends have quite decided after the events of last night they were going to find me a solution to my problem and have come up with these links
Some ideas here:
http://www.thriftyfun.com/tf89180387.tip.html
More gadgets:
http://www.gadgets.co.uk/item/SPIDC/Spider-Catcher.html
http://www.primrose-london.co.uk/advanced-spider-repeller-whole-house-p-1277.html
The middle one apparently has pictures of spiders on it (i asked before i clicked on any of them :rotfl: ) She copied and pasted to me what it said thoughEver wanted a way way of removing those pesky little beasts from your bath, ceilings and other awkward areas?
Spider Catcher is the innovative solution to your creepy crawly problems, by which uses two sets bristles to gently catch the spider, carefully trapping it until you release it outside.
The Spider Catcher keeps you at a comfortable distance when you pickup and transport the spider or insect. With a trigger at one end and the bristles at the other, there is no need for you to spend your nights on the couch because a spider has decided to move into your bedroom!
It is long enough to reach ceilings reaches awkward places/corners. (The average arm length is 65cm - about the same length as the spider catcher, so most people would be able to reach insects around 1.3 metres away).
The inventor came up with the idea for the Spider Catcher after spending years chasing spiders with a hoover or rolled up newspaper for his young son who was terrified of them.
Not wanting to harm the spiders and conscious of peoples fear of spiders, he designed a way to harmlessly remove spiders and other household pests.
Spider Catcher is also gentle on insects. The Spider Catcher has been tested on hundreds of spiders and never harmed a single insect; it is even gentle enough to catch butterflies without causing any damage to their delicate wings! Feel good when using the Spider Catcher that you have removed a spider or insect without causing harm.
Every home should have one - No mess. No splat on walls etc. It's also kind to the environment as no batteries required.
Not only for spiders, Spider Catcher can be used on a variety of insects including butterflies and moths etc. Spider Catcher is also convenient for collecting dead insects from window sills, picking up goldfish and collecting mayfly for fishing.
im not sure i like the fact that they would still be alive though
Was also given this one
Here is an article (no pics) about how they get in and a recipe with some oils (no poison).
http://byfaithonly.com/Spiders.html
I think im gonna try and get some citronella oil this afternoon as they apparently really dont like thatAnything is worth a try at the moment.
Other than that their suggestions were that i get a lizard/dog/cat to walk about the house to eat the spiders for me, I did ask if they could imagine a lizard walking about the house :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
I am going to try and borrow a friends dog for a couple of days though just to make me feel a bit saferI always thought id say that about burglars not spiders :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

This thread has some brill ideas on it for getting rid of spiders :T
It was only the other night that I was talking about a massive spider on the BB threadIt which was in my DDs nursery
and was easily the size of my palm, if not bigger  I couldn't be dealing with that crawling round the house or my DDs room so I put a coffee jar over it and sprayed it with deicer
I don't like to kill things but my fear is greater than there's
It always annoys me when people say "but you're bigger than a spider, its more scared of you" errr yeah, is that why they seem to run at me
My OH has witnessed it and now says that I have every reason to be scared :rotfl:
I have a real fear of them- Wish I could get over it because I would hate for my little one to pick up on itBut I can't actually work out what scares me?! I lifted up a tea towel the other day and one fell off on to my bare foot and ran away and although I jumped at first, it didn't actually freak me out that much- in fact it tickled! But to get close to one and try to put it outside, well

I don't mean to upset anyone, but spiders are so beautiful and peaceful! They eat smaller things that you cannot see to catch.
I actually like spiders so this thread upset me a bit when I think of the awful deaths those innocent little creatures are put to. At this time of year the mums have young, many of them are so caring of their little ones. I watched one recently racing to save her babies from a little stream of water (OK, yes, I helped by diverting the water away from them). Hmmm, can you tell I wandered into here by accident on my way to the pets board?
Please, please stop with the vac deaths and get yourselves spider catchers instead. Here is another random selection of gadgets.

Spider and insect trap
If you really, really must kill them, then consider using something more humane, like THIS
I understand the horrors of aracnophobia, but maybe realising that these are living creatures who have as much right to life as we do might help you to think about more humane ways of keeping your homes spider free?
Also, those of you who freak out when you are driving. please, please get enough phobia treatment so that you are safe on the roads. Someone said about driving off the road onto the verge in a panic? Now to me, that is REALLY terrifying.
Ok, sorry to have interupted, I'll go back where I belong nowMy first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead

I have such a phobia about spiders it's embarrassing sometimes.
I usually put a glass over any which are on the floor and OH can come home to a couple of them in the evenings.
But nowadays my boys (9 and 4) are getting quite good with the old glass/paper/putting them outside.....in fact they argue over who gets to do it lol.
So now OH only has to deal with the Huuuuge ones (lucky bloke eh) :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219. RacyRed - the electric spider killer seems less humane to me that my method of cracking them with hubby's size 12. I never miss and I doubt they see it coming - how much less humane to be sucked up and electrocuted. Much as I hate them, I don't think I could be party to killing them that way!I let my mind wander and it never came back!0

I just cannot bear the idea of those spider catcher things:eek:
What if you miss the sods and they run up the thing at you?:eek::eek::eek:
I cannot bear to go near them
My kids hate them too, so I am forced to kill them
Why do they pick on me?:sad::heartpulsOnce a Flylady, always a Flylady:heartpuls0 -

I agree that it is less humane than a well aimed size 12, but a lot more humane that being hoovered up.My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead

so last night sitting on the sofa and a real fast motherflucker ran down the arm
My stepdad put it outside as I refused to sit down!
Went for a nice long walk today and managed to find 2 conkers - plan to go back in a month or so to get some more when they are ready and put them in every corner or every room!
Since this thread started, I've found 2 spids, a wasp dead in the bath this morning and 2 moths! :eek:A very busy Yummy Mummy to a 1 year old gorgeous boy :smileyhea
Where does the time go? :think:0 -
Since finding this thread I haven't found any spiders or daddy long legs, but I have found an infestation of little flying beetles, which are tiny so I can cope with them, I just pick them up and pop them out the window.
I don't think I could use the spider catcher, it looks like you have to get quite close and what if you pick the spider up with it, and it drops out of those thread things, and surely it would see you coming and scuttle off or maybe towards you    The one from Lakeland I think I could use with the mini vacuum, that doesn't seem half as scary as the other one. It just needs a massive extender handle so I could be a few miles away so I could run away if I miss! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
If it wasn't a big spidey I could probably capture it if it was on a wall or ceiling, not on the floor though I can't work it out how to get the card underneath without it escaping. If I found 1 on the floor, I think I'd just trap it in a glass and leave it there until Mr Coffeeholic returned.
Am finding this thread very eye-opening, I sometimes think its just me who is this scared of spiders and bugs. All the coffee in Columbia won't make me a morning person...
