I felt very proud when I did cry after I saw one dead in the mouse trap. Still hate them, but at least I can move in my own home. Come September, those flying ones are everywhere for two weeks.
Mice can fly??!0 -
Ok, I am seriously freaked out now! Please though, nobody post a picture of a spider!
I am scared witless of spiders and we have now found three massive ones in the last week!!!
I no longer have an OH to get rid of them (although he did come out at 11.30pm the other night to one of them and he caught the second one as he was here at the time) and I am very scared.
DD2 just told me there was another in the hallway and I managed to grab the hoover (I have it permanently ready to go at the moment!) and get rid of it.
DD1 is great with small to medium spiders, but these are HUGE!!!
I've got to clear out my computer room as it is starting to gather 'stuff'.
I am also going to put carpet on the landing and stairs, because I've convinced myself they come up through the cracks in the floorboards!
I'm going to get my ex to take the rest of his tools etc from under the stairs as I want that as clutter free as possible.
Everything else is as clear as I can make it - I have all furniture away from walls so I can get the vacuum cleaner behind it and I will only open windows when I am in the room with the vacuum cleaner ready so I can get any that come in.
But what else can I do?
Has anyone tried those electronic things and if so, do they work? My fear is, if they work, they may stop the spiders that are in the house getting out iyswim?
I've seen people talk about different home made sprays on other websites but I can't go looking too much because people post blimming pictures, which scares the hell out of me as well - I can't look at them at all.
Oh boy, this really isn't funny, although I'm sure it seems that way to people who aren't scared of them!
Is it just me...?
It really isn't good for you to be living scared of them, killing them is cruel and you will pass on the phobia to your kids and encourage them to be cruel too.
I don't like spiders but I have taught myself to deal with them because I didn't like being the kind of person that would kill a creature just because.0 -
When I was about 14, I was in bed going to sleep. On the wall by my bed was a massive Bros poster. I heard this pitter patter noise looked at the poster and in the dark I could just make out the shape of an enormouse spider running down the poster.
I have never shot out of bed so fast in my life, poor matt got a spider splatted on his cheek, and I had to take the poster down lol!£100 - £10,0000 -
If you have such a problem don't you think you ought to go ans seek some therapy? There are lots of ways of dealing with this phobia which are very effective.

I am getting help with it - I've posted about it on this thread!
Killing anything could be considered cruel, but killing spiders does not make someone cruel per se.
I'm assuming you are a vegan...?
And you never use any product that is/has been tested on animals...?0 -
In a strange way this thread has made me feel so much better knowing that I'm not alone. The London Zoo thing looks interesting - maybe it could be a Christmas present to me from my long-suffering mum! :rotfl:
I check all my shoes before I put them on and do a wall and ceiling patrol of each room. Like others I shake and cry if faced with one, and once I've spotted one I can't look at it, but perversely can't take my eyes off it - I need to know where it is!
Just to add my horror tale, a few weeks ago when I got up to go to the bathroom, there I was, wandering in half asleep, when I noticed a huge sp**er lurking under the rim of the loo. Thank God I noticed it or I think I'd have passed out. Just imagine ... :eek:0 -
I reckon if they frighten you, kill them quickly. This will make you feel better now, and in control for the future.
Oven cleaner foam spray kills them in seconds, and has never yet damaged my carpet/sink/cupboard doors. (Don't leave the foam there too long or it might damage your surfaces.)
Or, may I recommend the following? On spotting a tegeneria gigantica, take a deep breath, switch the lights full on, (makes them stop where they are, perhaps something to do with having 8 eyes,) quickly walk out of the room, grab a plastic fly swatter, march briskly back in and immediately smash the thing to bits with around a dozen lashes before stopping to think about the enormity of getting within a couple of feet of it. Breathe out. If I give myself time to pause, I am too frightened to go through with it, and have to go out, take another breath, and come back in again. When it's safely in pieces and so clearly unlikely to move of its own volition again, you can hoover it up.
Spider-catching gadgets wouldn't work for me - couldn't stand them flying through the tube in my hand.0 -
