Thought I would share my experience with you. I used to be absolutely terrified of spiders when I lived with my parents & wouldn't enter a room without putting the light on & doing a 'spider-check' first!!
I now live on my own & gradually I've become able to deal with them. There is no room in my house for spiders & they have to be squashed or caught. My tip would be to get a very large jar (I think mine was a christmas sweety jar) with a screw on lid. Do the glass & card trick, then flip the jar up the right way and gently pull the card out while holding the lid over the jar, screw it up & bobs your uncle. In a day or so the spider will die & then you can put it outside. Its mean I know, but it works!!:p
Once you catch your first you can only move forward. Don't let the spiders ruin your life!;)0 -
Get a cat. Guaranteed body guard for the next 17 years or so. And they take care of flies, grasshoppers, frogs, mice, slow worms, birds, mosquitos and anything else that flaps, flies, buzzes, slithers or scuttles into the house.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0

My cat is hopeless at getting spiders, he just watches them:eek:.
The duck on the other hand is brilliant, crispy (the duck) chases them and eats them :A so if you really want a great deterant get a duck.....ok so maybe not the most practical of pets LOL.

We had another biggie walking up the stairs last night!
DD(17) got it with the hoover, while I 'supported' from a safe distance!
Then we decided there may be another in the things on the stairs, so she lifted it all with a hook while I stood guard with the vacuum cleaner and one hand poised on the switch!
What a couple of planks we are! :rotfl:0 -
I went to bed on Monday night and turned off the light. laying all still and felt something ticklish on my shoulder. Kind of brushed it off and felt that it was a bit 'solid' jumped up turned on the light to find a brown spider on my bed. FREAKED ME OUT
Biggest one i have seen since I moved here - still small compared to oz but still IT WAS ON ME!!!
Tried to kill it with my shoe and it ran. Had to pull off all the bed linen and mattress cover etc to find it, then found it on the floor. Killed it DEAD and picked it up in some kitchen towel and gave it a big twist to make sure it was real dead!!!
I have lived in australia most of my life with HUGE spiders and creepy crawlys but never on me!!! only thing that comforts me is the chances of it happening twice are probably slim - but do a good check just in case!!0 -
I am scared of big spiders, actually petrified of the HUGE thick black ones that scuttle accross the floor. The other eve something caught my eye, i jumped up because i actually thought i saw a mouse run along the side of the skirting board thats how big it was. It ran and then froze near my TV cabinet (behind the little door that was open so i had to actually pull the door back to see it - seriously scary). Well OH was at work, night shift. DD age 3 was sitting on the floor playing. What to do...well i phoned OH while hiding behind my living room door - i was sobbing quietly down the phone telling him it was an emergency and he had to come home immediately to kill the spider. Obviously he laughed - telling me to squash it - so takes me at least 10 mins standing about 5ft away from it waving the shoe in the air trying to be brave and acurate enough to throw it. Finally throw it and the !!!!!! moves, i screach like i'm about to be murdered or something, phone still in one hand with OH on the line, poor DD jumps like crazy and does a massive leap onto the far sofa (up until this part i have tried to not even let her realise anything was wrong) so she is in a blind panic as she has no idea why i'm screaming. I do a crazy leap backwards up onto the sofa. Guess what - amazingly i hit the sod (amazing accuracy :P. He was still twitching, my voice is ridiculously high pitched going''what do i do now?'' over and over doing a funny dance with my feet as i'm so shaken up. So OH tells me it is time for the hoover....takes about another 10 mins, as soon as the spidi is sucked up i let out another screach and throw the bloody hoover pipe accross the room still on:eek:. Compose myself and then turn it off and all and finally turn to DD and say ''don't worry darling, its just a spider'':D as calmly as possible - fear is still in her little eyes:o. Then proceed to plug the end of the hoover and leave it by the front door for OH to deal with in the morning.:rotfl:
Next morning OH can see the blighter though the hoover window and was shocked - he then admits he doesn't think he could have dealt with that :eek::eek:(he is as scared as i am). But please don't ever let me have to go through that again.:o
Now C**kroaches - that is a real phobia i can't even write the word, i'm itching now - i cannot watch Gordan Ramsey's show or anything like that as they give no warning - even seeing one on tv and i climb the walls - someone emailed me a big photo of one at work and i screamed the place down. Now considering at the time i worked in a call centre, i could have easily been sacked :eek:_pale_
Sorry for the long post and sorry for the one BIG paragraph - i can't even get the courage to read over what i wrote to break it up a bit - just had to share my story but type as quickly as poss to somehow not get freaked out.:DMummy of 3 lovely munchkins :smileyhea0 -
:eek:Eurgghhh sorry now i can't sleep as i have roaches on the mind - the funny thing is i have only ever seen them in real life twice so not sure why i have a true phobia. Once in somones flat many years ago - i actually didn't know what they were at first i thought it was a couple of beatles- luckily i was told after we left. The second was in south China in a 5* hotel, the blighters were massive and look absolutely nothing like the ones here do. One came through under our room door directly at me and DD who was just 1 - i ran (OH said he has never seen me leap directly over two double beds before, lol) and i left DD on the floor trying to pick it up (as curious 1 yr olds do) - of course this made me scream even more. OH had to 'save' DD because i was in tears over the fact i couldn't go back over to save her. I never slept another single night that we stayed at the hotel, slept by the pool during the days instead - i was absolutely shattered by the time we left.

So why not just put it outside alive to scuttle off?I don't like spiders, but don't think I could watch it die in a jar, I'd rather it was out the house straight away.
