  • I cannot stand spiders. When I see one, my hands turn into spiders, and I cringe. I remember once being in the bath when I was a kid. I thought the wet plaster which was on my finger was a spider. I was screaming like hell, scaring my mum half to death. She had to slap me across the face to calm me down to tell me it was only a bl00dy plaster!

When I was with the ex, he was useless as he hated spiders. Now i'm on my own with my children, I have to be a bit braver. However, I do try and find the nearest aerosol can of something and spray whatever is moving, so it can't breathe, then kill it. Then I know it's dead.

I'm so sorry to all spider lovers (wasps, bees, flies, anything that moves fast), but I can't stand them!

I dont even wanna get that close
i once let out a HUGE big scream at work when one fell on me as I was cleaning. Turns out it was already dead:rotfl: but it scared the bejesus out of me, and everyone else:D

I think my fear came when I was about 9. I had just got out the bath and thought it was a loose thread on the towel which was tickling my leg, it wasn't:eek::eek:

And my ex used to catch the bu99ers and pretend to throw them at me:eek::eek::eek::eek:
I knew he would never actually do it, but it got me every time:cool:

  • I forgot to mention, I can handle money spiders; which is weird. Had one on my hand the other day and was watching it, and the cheeky beggar went to go and do a bitey motion. "You can cut that out" says I, and blew him away. I do feel a teeny bit apprehensive but I can deal with it.

House spiders are the worst, the ones with the thick bodies and spindley legs that scuttle at top speed across the floor. Just the look of them makes me cold. Maybe it's the speed, I can handle the thin daddy long legs-like one's because they're so slow. You can get yourself away from the spider quickly and when you look back it's not going to have followed you or moved and hid.

I don't know if I'd ever do one of those zoo courses; it's all tarantula sized ones and I'm unlikely to come across one of those in my house. I thought tarantulas were all slow moving ones too; but my oh tells me that if they were on the attack they'd be very quick indeed  I did NOT need to know that

My Mum once made the mistake, in a very busy main street, of telling me there was a spider on my shoulder...... well i screamed and started flailing about like an idiot shouting " get it off, get it off meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee"

i think she was rather embarrassed :rotfl:

  • Oooooo i hate spidi's too. My sister loves the things, she even keeps tarantulas! If i see a big one I usually grab the vac, but as i've got a dyson and i've heard about the egg layin thing i tend to leave it running and then empty the bucket thing straight outside in the bins.
We went to australia last year to visit my parents and yes the Golden Orbs are HUGE. Ive never seen anything like then. However they are harmless. When i was there i shook down my bed every night due to bein scared of the white tails(nasty little sods that bite and cause ulcerations)
We'd been there for 10 days and taking down the christmas tree, and a huge !!!!!! ran out under my feet. I screached and jumped on the thing. I dont normally kill em but being in oz the thought of it biting me or one of he kids over ruled! However my sister freaked out big time and went hunting for a spider in the paddocks. Im sitting there happily reading and the next thing i know her and my brother come in fighting! I only found out later she was about to chuck a golden orb at me, and my brother knows how petrified i am of them so he scrapped with her till she sodded off! I could have killed her!!!!
I definatly think i am going to get some of that spray and spritz it round the door frames etc, we've just moved into a new(old) house and the spiders are EVERYWHERE!!! ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

    PS- Hi! JINKY!
  • Very funny Jinky! And your FB status made me laugh this morning! We're twice the size of them, so why do we let them get to us like they do?

I can really recommend London Zoo's Friendly Spider Course. I used to have a terrible phobia of spiders, so I can identify with a lot of the posts on here. It all came to a head a couple of years ago when I ended up spending 2 hours sat on our kitchen table watching a huge spider so that I knew where it was for when my dh got home!

The course consisted of cognitive behavoural therapy and hypnosis. Despite me being very sceptical about this, it seems to have done the trick. I don't love spiders now, but I can happily get a glass and put them outside. It's made such a difference to my life! I even held a tarantula at the zoo at the end of the day, which would have been unthinkable a few years ago!

I'm glad it worked for you!

It's horrible when you think they may disappear isn't it! Many a time I have stood in hysterics shouting at my ex to come and get it before it runs away! :rotfl:

The funny thing is though, I'm not sure I'd be as bothered about a tarantula - I think they are more like small animals to me than spiders...?

I may think again if ever confronted with one mind!
