I've gone for the 2mb option. I've just given them my MAC Code. The person I spoke to was Grant Ross, who was very helpful. Primus have been great on their customer service. Very helpful and a free phone number. Signed for 12 months but with the deal and the rebate, you get 3 months free at the end of the contract.

I went for the 1MB option. Got the modem yesterday, very easy to set up, and worked first time. Very fast too.

Does anyone know if they have a newsserver, and if so what the settings are?

Well I am now connected, with good speed (more than 1Mb). However, not without initial teething problems. First, I received a letter dated 26 May clearly stating that my Broadband was now active! On Saturday 3rd June, I followed instructions received with the modem implicitly, but it just would not work. (As I had cancelled my dial-up I was not best pleased). Their freephone help-desk came in for some heavy use. They repeatedly told me that my Account was not supposed to be active until 8th June, had to speak to the duty manager and read out the letter. He spent an hour with me going through everything, but still no joy. He said he would report a line fault and an engineer would contact me to-day. However I then spent a couple of hours deleting programs and re-loading etc. and suddenly it worked. I have now disconnected and re-connected several times and everything is fine. One word of warning though, to use their email address, you have to make it the default one. Also, make sure your computer does not try to continue with the dial-up modem. The engineer rang as promised although I had emailed them to cancel..

I added the eprimus email details to my accounts in OE but could not send or receive. When the engineer phoned he told me to make it the default email. When in Outlook click on Tools and then Accounts, highlight the email address you are dealing with and then click on 'Set as Default'. This then becomes the main email usage address, in other words if you clicked on 'Create Mail' it would automatically add the sender address of your default email address. Once I had got it up & running I then changed the default back to my gmail address, which is my usual default. I hope this is not 'teaching grandmother to suck eggs' but you asked for an explanantion!

could it be that you have to set it as the default smtp settings for all of your email addresses? as this would allow the rest of your email to send normally

No - Once I had sent and received 2 emails, I switched back to gmail as my default and everything still comes & goes OK, including eprimus.

  • I'm gonna go for the 2mb broadband. I'm already with them for the telephone. I signed up to their fee weekend and evening calls a while ago. Just need to cancel my NTL connection.

How is Primus with wireless network connections? I have a pc (desktop) and an apple ibook (laptop). At present, my wireless network runs from an apple wireless router. The pc connects via belkin wireless thing.
  • Oh, can you switch to their broadband via uswitch or other cashback websites??
